Message: I was at my friendly Dodge vendor and he said they were going back to pushrods. Seems they can do the same things as overhead cams, cheaper.

Message: WHY? because he obviously doesn't know his product. as moparR/T stated, the hemi's are pushrod, always have been.

Message: Most likely he was talking about the 4.7. The hemis are push rod but they are also dual rocker. In most all cases ohc engines perform better some of which comes from fewer moving parts. I don't know if or why ohc would be more expensive, given fewer parts, but it certainly is cheaper and easier to maintain and replace parts.
Four ohc on a hemi would be awsome especially if it had three or four valves per cylinder.

Message: I don't see how a OHC engine is easier to work on, unless you're talking about cam swaps. I think that the 4.7 is a good engine for an SUV, but when you need low end torque, you need a pushrod engine. That would be great if they came out with a pushrod 4.7, but what I'm waiting for is an engine based on the 4.7 only with a displacement between the 4.7 an 5.7, like a 5.1L or something. I won't give up my 318 though!

Message: novaDAK: I've had several 318's in my lifetime, and two 4.7's. Unless you need the larger displacement for towing, I recon the 4.7 is a faster, stronger engine than the 318 even though it only has 287 cubes.
Just my 2 cents worth.
