Subject: 5.2 or 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Ok I've decided instead of buying a truck I could just swap in a V8 since my all powerful 3.9 just so happens to not be all powerful. Will the 318 just bolt right in? I know they started putting 4.7's in the '00 but I heard it's a pain to swap in a 4.7, if it doesnt cost anymore to have either swapped I'd rather have the 4.7 because they get a little better mileage. I wont be doing this myself for I do not have enough spare time at all. But I only really get to drive my truck on the weekends and I live on base and walk to school so no probs not having my truck for a little while. Any suggestions?

Message: The easiest would be the 5.2, but while you're at it, why not get the 5.9? It's just as easy to put in as the 5.2 (basically the same engine, but different bore/stroke and other minor diff.). The 4.7 will be harder because of the different motor mounts, etc.
Good luck!

Message: What's easier may depend on the year of your truck; and you haven't provided that info. The PCM needed to run the motor should match the year of your truck to interface best with your dash, etc.

Message: '00 CC Sport 4x4. Dont want the 5.9 because I would like to keep the mileage I'm getting now which isn't all that great and I dont want to have to replace my tranny. I have the NV3500 and I remember reading somewhere the 4.7 uses that so I'm not too worried about that. Since the 4.7 and 5.2 have about the same power it dont matter. I wont be doing this myself but I'm not sure about the cost difference. Any ideas about how much a swap would cost?
