Subject: tps mod? IP: Logged
Message: the legendary FREE tps mod. what does it do? my impression is that it tells the computer you have your foot further on the gas than you really do. will this help it to hold gears longer and downshift sooner cause it thinks your really on it. that's what i want. the truck shifts to soon and i still have wussy 3.55 gears for now and the least my truck can do is hold the gears.
problem is i can't figure out how to do this mod. can someone tell me what tool i need, what to adjust, and how to fudge it for now without a voltmeter. can i just turn it half a turn and see how she drives for now. i really want to find this adjustment and give it a shot! thanks for the help

Message: I'd honestly be afraid of borking something up majorly. I haven't heard anything about a TPS mod though. Have you considered just getting a Superchips programmer to tighten up the shifting?

Message: they don't make a superchips for the 2004 dakota and that really doesn't do anything for shift points at part throttle anyways. it does remove torque management for wot shifts which is nice, but not what i'm looking for. for around town driving, i just want the truck to stay in gear just a little longer. anyone know how to do this mod, i can't search this forum cause i'm not an official member.

Message: TPS mod is for trucks that don't have crisp throttle response; it can't be done without a voltmeter - you'll only be turning it slightly, not "half a turn".

Message: Just my 2 cents. I've talked to several people who have done this mod to their trucks and said that it is basically a waste of time and not worth the risk of ruining a perfectly goods tps. Gains were barely noticed if any at all.

Message: I did this mod and yes very soon after i needed a new TPS. It is SO not worth the $50 it cost in a new TPS. I can not find my link to the how to page but if I find it I will post it.

Message: Here is how to do it on a Sebring.
You have to scroll down a little ways and it is discussed in detail about what it does...

And here is the Sebring way of doing it...
http://t.vago.home.att.net/howto/ja_tps.html
Going by what that guy says, it is really only going to do anything on a Automatic equipped vehicle. I won't bother doing it on my 5 speed manual Dakota.

Message: To do it, just drill out the brass bushings and twist the tps till you read 0.65-0.70 volts or so.
To be honest it is a waste of time as the computer reads the minimum tps at startup and will readjust.
Get a DRB3 and you will see what I mean and what goes on.
You might be better off setting your minimum flow to the correct spec.
