Okay I feel really bad here... I was on the line with a buddy of mine in my 2002 RT, when an EX of mine pulled up beside me in a pontiac FIERRO!!! Anyway I wasnt paying too much attention and when the light turned green I heard his tires chirp and then I nail the gas. Tires didnt spin at all thankfully, but still I sat on his rear panel the entire time. The Ex, that @@@@ing bag, said later that they "smoked me". Here's how I see it: Im stock (as in absolutly NOTHING modded), he rebuilt and modified his POS... he has a manual and I have of course the auto.
my biggie here tho is that in about 4 weeks time Im likely going to be sitting on the line with him somwhere eles... so I need some good mods that I can do in the next couple of weeks that are DIRT cheep and that will boost me to the point where I can SMOKE him and the bag EX. Ideas would be greatly appicated... I know some of the things Im going to do like a new K&N gen II... but I need other CHEAP fixes after that.

If you heard his tires chirp then you nailed it and you were pacing him, I'd suspect that you only need to work on you reaction time. Keep one eye on your light and another on the light for the cross traffic. Make sure you know if the advance green is going to come up. Tach it up a bit before you launch. Since the street doesn't have a foul light cheat a bit and pull before the light goes green. (He'd do it to you) but just remember the advance green for the turn lanes.
My personal fave is to get next to the guy at the light and rev er up like you're gonna blow him off get him all keyed up and then when the light goes green just drive away nice and civil like and watch him beat the crap out of his mailbox on wheels.
The bigger ? is, What does either one of them mean to you? screw em both! Street racing doesn't prove anything, tell em to meet you at the track and then settle it right.

TV Cable adjustment. Go to www.speedtweaks.net and there are lots of free tweeks that will help. Also you could make a homemade cold air. Get the engine breathing then you will scream.

You might also try getting the muffler cut off and running straight pipes from the catalytic converter. This will improve performance by allowing the air to get in and out faster. It helps a little, but the cold air intake would help a little more.

Magnum- You know it really doesnt matter at all, just like you said... but still it bruised my ego. Not only did the silly little twit beat me, he did it in a fierro. In the end your right, street racing doesnt matter, its illegal, dangerous and a good way to shmuck yer truck into a curb, or worse a light poll.

Hey RTD2 I know where you're comming from, it took me a real long time to cultivate the attitude expressed in my last post. I've been beaten off the line so many times when I didn't even know I was racing! Used to really burn me! I'd go skulking after the guy hoping to stage up next to em' at the next light and you just never seem to regain your composure. The only way to avoid it altogether is Launch from every light like your deep stagged at the Winternational's aganist Don Garlitts! ;-)
I've got a good story about a race with a 83 Celica I'll post from home 'cause I'm at work right now.
BTW those little Fieros are a pretty physics friendly package light + v-6 + RWD no shame in losing to one of them. (granted the x adds a little Tobasco to the wound.)
