I have had one hell of a time with the O2 sensors on my 2000 Sport Extended cab 4.7L V8.
The trusty little engine light came on giving me codes, I put my faith in the gents that reply to poor amature mechanics like me, you guys came through. Told me what it was and how to fix. I bought a repair manual and the parts I needed and I was on my way. I replaced the power steering pressure switch, the down stream O2 sensor, battery, and tried to do the up stream sensor last night. I knew it would be a tough job as this one is really hard to get to and work in there. It seems the part I picked up does not fit. The sensor has a,"female", end on it that connects to the male end on the truck. My new upstream male has ridges that are too close together for the female part specified for my truck. To be sure I went to auto value with old sensor in hand, compared it again with the specified model for my truck and sure sh*t they do not match.
Has anyone experienced this? Did dodge screw me by using otherwise designated parts for my truck at time of assembly..
The worst thing about this is that I spent 30 min trying to fit the female over the male that I damaged the clip so I cannot return it.
Any ideas?
My thought was to take old factory sensor in hand and go to the dealer and ask for explanation. I want them to give me the right part for nothing.

Dang man, I'm sorry to hear that. You may want to take the sensor to a dealer like you are saying and see if that is the correct original for your vehicle. It also may not hurt to get online to Advance Auto or Carparts.com and see if you can pull up more info on your truck's OE equipment. If that sensor is the correct original (according to the dealer), you may want to go ahead and get the part number from them and cross reference it at a parts store to find the right sensor for you.

Some '00s got a single cat, others got 2 precats in addition to that - if you have the precats, they have sensors instead of the main cat. Maybe they are different depending on which set up you have ? Just a guess...

I would check your receipt and the part they gave you to see if the numbers match up. If so, go down there, and ask why it doesn't fit your truck.

P/N 56028233AA is for the "Before Catalyst" O2 sensor for both Federal and California Emissions.

Hey Redfelt - take your old sensor to Advance Auto, AutoZone, or some place similiar and ask for the same part from another Dodge truck to see if it matches.
The reason I say this is I had the oil pressure gauge sensor go out on my '98 Jeep Cherokee Sport and the sensor in everyone's books for my particular vehicle did not match what actually was on it. Turns out I needed a sensor from what the "books" said belonged on a Grand Cherokee. I also discovered the hard way that the fuses in my Cherokee don't match what's shown in the Owner's Manual. It needed two more. If the fuses were installed per the manual I wouldn't have overdrive, power mirrors, AC, or the electric fan.
Sounds like Daimler/Chrysler has some problems regarding parts and the corresponding literature.

Just ran into the same problem with mine. I had to use 2001 to get the correct upstream O2 sensor. There is no listing for the year 2000

Well it seems the problem is solved.
The dealer's code matched the sensor I had in his US book. Apparently in Canada the codes and spec books are different. So the non dealer part stores have the o2 sensors listed as per the different spec. Sfor ford its brake drums.
Anyhow I got the right part and its all good. As for the damaged part, well I sweet talked the blue eyed war pig at the parts counter, so she gave me a refund. Was going to claim it as warranty.
