Subject: 360 heads on '95? IP: Logged
Message: I just read in the "need info on '91 318' thread about putting on 360 heads, intake, and carb and getting close to 400hp. Is something like this possible on my '95 318 magnum FI? Keeping the FI?

Message: All V8 magnum heads are the same that goes for the R/T trucks as well. The Mopar R/T head is a performance head offerd from Mopar. A 360 LA head would be a step back, you would lose flow over the 5.2L,5.9L Magnum head

Message: Along those lines, the 318'360 Magnum heads all retain the large port sizes like the 360 LA, where only the 340 and 360 (LA) had the large ports, while the 318 had small ports.
As for 400HP on the '95, it's possible, since you have the Magnum heads, but there's a lot more to it. The example I'd cited was a carbureted engine.

Message: Shouldn't FI be better? I don't knowa whole lot about Carbs, but it seems the idea to more power is more air and more fuel, as far as the carb is concerned. That should be easier with injectors. At least it's not TBI.

Message: Fuel injection better?
It depends more air more fuel= more power.
Compression, heads, intake, carb,RPM=power, all of these parts have to work togather or you will loose power.
F/I is the same princple but there is a catch. The PCM, ECU, ECM or what ever you want to call it. The PCM looks at the amount of air comming in pluse a hole bunch of other stuff to add the right amount of fuel and then its goal is 14.7 to 1 AFR, not good for power. One can flash the PCM but there are still limits, or go to a stand alone ECM, big bucks and not emissions legal. 400 horse power stroke it and put a blower on it.

Message: Yeah, to follow on that, the carb engine was dyno tuned with O2 sensor feedback showing a nice power A/F ratio of around 13.2 to 1.

Message: I don't need 400 horses, I just thought if it was that easy on the motor in question, why not mine. Besides as far a sI drive to work, it would be rediculous on gas. How hard is 300hp without forced induction? Stock is around 240, right?

Message: Early on in the Magnum's life Mopar Performance marketed a performance upgrade kit that included the hotter PCM, Magnum RT cam (not the cam in the Magnum RT truck....that's the same as all the other cams), and a free-flowing exhaust (black muffler....looked like a Flowmaster), K&N-style air filter, and headers. They boasted a 46 peak HP improvement with this C.A.R.B-exempt package, so if you go a little further with a mandrel-bent exhaust system, a slightly larger throttle body 300HP is within reach.

Message: Flashing is at dealer, or some tuner shops...Jet, Superchips, etc.
However, you have a '95? Flashing is for '96 and up. Manciniracing.com, summitracing.com, etc for the hotter PCM's for '92-'95's.
