Subject: 6A/6AL box IP: Logged
Message: i have a 1993 318 auto 4x4 and i was wondering if the engine has a rev limiter and if so what rpm does it kick in at.
also if i put a 6A box on does render the stock rev limiter useless(provided it has one) or does the stock one still work.
thanks

Message: The 6AL will not change the stock rev limiter - you will need to buy a performance pcm or have your stock one flashed. Not sure what the stock rev limit is (around 5000 rpm) but it sure is annoying. The 6AL has a much smoother limiter as it doesnt just cut the motor off momentarily. If you have the stock rev limit removed (by flashing) and have your 6AL set at 6000 RPM, the 6AL limit will be hard to reach if kept in drive and is more than enough RPM for the stock motor, as you can float the valves or damage the motor.
Gotta love them on ramps!

Message: I'm not worried about having a higher rev limit i just wanted to know if the 318s had them in 93 and I wanted to know if the stock rev limiter still worked with a 6A box not a 6AL(too expensive)
but thanks anyway
