Subject: Rocker Ratio ??? IP: Logged
Message: Good Afternoon all,
I was browsing the Xmas parts catalogs and found that Harland Sharp makes a 1.6 roller rocker for the magnum motors... Mopar parts also has 1.7 rockers. I've been searching and searching for the cam specks and rocker ratio/spring coil bind numbers of a 2001 Dak R/T (obviously the 5.9L).
Can anyone shed some light on this...
What are the stock rocker ratios and are they roller?
What is the stock spring coil bind?
What are the stock cam specs?
Can a 1.7 rocker be used under the stock valve cover? I doubt it... but thought I'd ask anyway.

Message: stock rockers are 1.6 - stamped, no rollers...
1.7 will work with the stock valve cover, but you must remove the baffles... valve clearance is fine with the stock cam, but if you install 1.7 rollers you cant get much bigger with the cam...

Message: you can go big with a cam if you have 1.7 rr's. you just have to advise the cam grinder or supplier of such.

Message: yes
you do not have to remove the baffles.. you can just get a hammer and push in the center.

Message: They can take it, but with more lift and stress, comes more flex. Flexing sets up harmful harmonics in the valvetrain. It also cheats you out of some of that newfound lift. Now, the engine might run happily for another 100,000 miles, but it's a good idea to shore up that link when possible with thicker-walled aftermarket pushrods.
