Message: I also have a 2000 4.7 dakota sport. Mine also cuts off at around 98-99 mph. I don't sweat it because the only way to get rid of the limiter is to get the Computer reprogrammed ($300+), and the tires the dakota comes with are not rated for over 100, I think. Anyway 10mph dosen't matter because I let off during a race at 60 or 70, by that time I've already left the competition. I've been reading these forums for about 4 months and nobody gets to 120. You can search the forums for "speed limiter" for more info.

Message: I guess we should take a poll. I "think" that the autos cut off at at that 98-99 mark, and the manual trans models go to 115. I'm only basing that on a sampling of about 5 or 6 trucks.... so I could be WAY off base. Hopefully we will get more answers in this thread and get a larger sampling.

Message: Stock, mine cut out at 113-115. It should be noted there is some error in the factory speedo, a dyno will give you the actual MPH. After my PCM flash, it now cuts out about 254 mph, the truck seems very light on its wheels at this speed, and I would not recommend trying it.

The engine does not actually cut off. It feels like you let off the throttle.

It actually feels like you broke something the first time you hit the limiter. And then you get all worried like you are going to have to walk home. Then you realize that you're still doing 95 and it's okay. Heh.

Message: Well,I don't know about my truck, but my bike had a rev limiter, couldn't red-line it if I wanted to. But I had it to 130mph,and it will go 150(149.9 according to the mags i've read)and thats waaaay to fast for me.
Alex , when the bike hit the rev limiter,it freaked me out! You are right, it felt like I broke something! I found an easy way to get rid of it though, but I don't know if it will work on our Daks, someone else can try if they want,Here's what you do,
1. Park in your friends garage.
2. Have him back into it and let it fall over.
3. Try not to kill him! He's your friend
Don't know if that will work on Daks, but my rev limiter never did work after that!!!

Didn't even realize how fast i was going until a friend looked at my speedo and said i was doing 110. I was really surprised when i looked down and saw the speedo there and it kept going up... till the road ran out. Would have really liked to see how fast i could have gotten her up to.?!?!

Message: I had my 5 speed 4.7 upto 110MPH (Integra limited, see "2 for 1 post: Integra+stall mats" post in Performance forum) and it would've kept going.
Many cars have a speed limiter for the sole purpose of tire speed ratings. The V6 cameros and convertibles have a 108MPH speed limiter because the lower profile tires caused cowl vibrations. The Firebirds did not have the limiter and did have the lower profile tires. (as of 1996 or so). I'm gonna miss my Grand Prix just because it would wipe it's 115MPH speedo with ease (3.1 V6, 4dr sedan) before coming to a drag limited top speed of about 125 MPH (aka: 5MPH faster than a 94-96 Mustang GT convertible).
I try not to do that too often because I doubt a cop would let it go with a warning.

I know that Dodge at least has 2 different tire sizes and 2 different Gear Ratios.
If you have the small tires & the small gear ratio *235x75x15 & 3.92* you are going to max out at a slower speed. If you have the big tires w/ the other gears *265x70x16 & 3.55*
I have a 4.7 auto 3.55 2001 QC w/ 265x70x16's
It cuts out at about 117 mph. I got to try it last weekend when I was playing w/ a Corvette on the way to Oklahoma. MAN!! Those Vettes are FAST.
