Message: i have a 2001 quad, 4x4, 5spd. 4.7. it has been modifed and puts 240 hp on the ground. i'd like to know does anyone know of an after mkt. computer? also, who does reprograming?
i had limiter problems at 90 mph untill a mechanic changed the programing. it's still there but at a higher speed. all dealers refuse to take it off. i guess there is the problem of liability. chrysler won't help me with anything!
my truck has always sergerged at very low speeds. it's like i'm teaching a new driver to drive a stick. all i here from dealers and
cheysler is it is characteristic to my truck. DA!
any one ever have the same? any ideas?

Message: Surging is NOT a characteristic of the 4.7. Mine has never done that. Please don't accept that answer, seems to be a standard stealership reply.

Message: Mine shuts off at about 100 even. I could care less if I can't do more and don't feel cheated out of the extra top end, seeing as how I have no interest in doing 135 in a 4x4 truck. At least now on the rare times when I peg the needle that deep the truck can keep up that speed witout even breathing hard, unlike my Ranger 4-banger that would loose 10 mph on a slight uphill grade.

Message: I own a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7 v8.
If you have installed an after market intake system such as a K&n or Airaid system did you get better or gas mileage or the same. Also I use my dakota to pull a 22 foot Hi-Lo camper which it does extremely well. The rub is the aftermarket clip on towing mirrors. Does anyone know of an extendable electric and heated mirror which will fit the Dakota.

Message: RTbill,
I had the same thing happening to me on my 5.2L. I took it to the dealer 5 times for the problem. They never would fix it under warranty. After the warranty went out I pulled the oil pan and installed a new oil pump just for kicks. I dissassembled the old oil pump and found a scar in the pressure relief valve. The piston in the relief valve was sticking where the scratch was. This consequently started happening right after the dealer changed the oil. I figured they got dirt in the oil and a piece of grit got between the oil-relief-piston and bore in the pump. I took the pump back to them to show them the problem and they would not stand good for it. I have changed my own oil ever since.
