Message: gerkey4.7, did you come to that conclusion all by yourself? Learn to spell or type first, Pinhead. I'm not the one giving inaccurate information or telling people that they don't know enough to put up a valid arguement followed by more BS.
This thread was started because Angel B. asked about 180 degree thermostats for the 4.7 V8. He didn't ask to be talked out of getting a 180 degree thermostat or for a bunch of BS about engine wear.
steve-o started off wrong and continued with more crap instead of admitting he didn't know what a coolant bypass port was or that running your engine cooler than stock is not detrimental to the engine as long as you do it within reason, a 180 degree thermostat is not extreme.

Message: WOW!! Had I known that posting this type of question was going to cause so much drama I would of had just slapped on the 180* thermostat and seen for myself if I would of had gotten what I was looking for.........which was to increase the HP and get a better response from my truck. Thanks to all for all of their input (be it technical, outrageous, or otherwise). What all of you did manage to do is to get the gears in my head turning, causing me to do more and more research and allowing me to come to my very own conclusion on whether or not to install a 180* thermostat. I have and together with a set of autolite 3923's I can feel a difference in my truck.
Thanks

Message: I'm surprised at all the whiners complaining about the content of this thread after insulting the posters and acting as if someone is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to read this. It IS possible to come to this forum and not read this thread. If you do read it fine but, unless you have any input for Angel or valid technical points why post anything?

Message: Is that the only mod that you have on your truck Keith?
I also have a home made TRUE (RAM AIR) COLD AIR INTAKE, superchips tuner load and a Flowmaster 50 series deltaflow w/true dual rear exit. Not sure if all of these put together along with lowering the engine temp and giving it a hotter spark helped me notice a difference. Dont get me wrong it wasnt a BIG difference but noticeable non the less, now it might also be because I am so in-tune with my truck that I notice EVERYTHING!!
Now I am looking for a future MOD, possible TB, HO Cams,..........any suggestions.

Message: Angel,
Although I put and run a 180 in my 4.7, I don't even think an accurate dyno would pick up a HP gain.
I did it b/c I don't use any belt driven clutch/fan (dynoed ~5-8hp) and think that a slightly cooler engine will have an overall longer potential. MY 01 stays about 1/3 on the gauge, or just inside the lower hash mark.

Message: Hey Todd are you running your truck without any kind of fan @all?
Can you believe that that is the ONLY mod that I absolutely cannot do, I have heard of other people removing the stock clutch fan and NOT putting in an electric fan and being able to run it just like that......WELL I CANT! I removed the stock fan and didn’t even make it around the block without my truck overheating, I tried turning on the heater with no luck. I am even running "Water Wetter" instead of anti-freeze.

Message: this just in, it turns out you dont need a cooling system at all with a magnum v8 engine! i just filled in all the empty holes in my engine block with silicone and i gained like, 50 hp man. i highly suggest doing so. it wont harm your motor whatsoever.
