Message: The manufacturers advertise the crank HP as it "sounds" better.
17% is just about on par with the figures Duner.
It also depends on driveline, fluids, efficiency of the driveline (aluminum or steel - weight factroy), and type of driveline.

Message: HP at the crank is easier because a truck can be equipped with many
types of drivelines 2wd,4wd,awd, lsd, no lsd, manual w/2wd,
manual w/4wd etc etc... for this reason It would seem silly to
advertise a trucks HP at the rear wheel. They would have to fine print
your RWHP with every possible mod. Besides, only gearheads
like us even care that we lose HP in the driveline.

Message: And remember gang, they deflated the 4.7 some, so it would look like it actually had less than the 5.9, in stock form. When in actuality, they were putting down about the same RWHP, in stock form!
Oh brother, I'll probably catch hell for that one.
Who the hell dug this up anyway?

Message: Well the 4.7 does seem to lay down some great all around torque. Towing my two quads to the Dunes outside of Yuma and back I showed up some bigger competition including a Tahoe pulling only one quad in his trailer. I KNOW those things have a bigger engine than a 4.7 too!

Message: 2000 2wd auto 3.55 trak-lok cc 4.7L (special ordered with 245hp 4.7L) intake and exhaust only i put down 214rwhp and 325rwtq,that equates to 265 crank hp flame all you want I HAVE the dyno sheet. these numbers work well to calculate crank hp to rwhp= crank hp times .8
to calculate rwhp into crank hp= rwhp divided by .8

Message: My 2001, ordered 4.7, came with the 235hp rating. They all do. Actually, they rated them at 240 I think, until the put a third cat on.
I confused about the one that goes in a durango, I think it's the same thing the dak gets.

i read an article about a chevy 1500 2wd with the 5.3 in it. 285crank hp only put down 207 to the wheels. nuff said. i think ours puts down nice numbers considering those with the 45rfe slushbucket was designed for comfortably smooth driving, as compared to a tranny designed for more heavy duty apps, like the chevy. vito your mom enjoyed the pipe dream i gave her last night jackazz

Message: 4.7 is rated 235 hp, or 230 with the third cat. The 45 RFE is a strong and efficient transmission, new planetary gear design with no bands to wear or adjust. I think its at least as strong as a Chevy, and more efficient than most other manufacturer's and the other mopar automatics. Have to agree with your assessment of Vito though.

Message: So I got a 2000 4.7L 4x4 clubcab, what are we lookin at here in regards to what hp I should be gettin at the rear wheels? I mean, I bought one of those like plug in dealies just for kicks, and goin up a slight incline, I got about 149 @ 60 mph for my peak, then I changed the HP factor to 1.18 following the instructions in the manual which said to change that factor based on the manufacturer's numbers divided by what you got to compensate. I was reading above and used 176hp/149hp to get the 1.18. Just if you could let me know about what I should be getting that'd be great to know, so I can adjust my thinking, thanks.
