Message: All of a sudden my tranny is making what could be described as the sound of sticking a screwdriver into a moving metal fan. Kinda like rattling merbles around in a tin can. Checked underneath an there seems to be a reasonably small amount of fluid leaking from the transfer case/transmission area. Checked tranny fluid and everything is OK there. Any ideas?? I haven't checked to see if it is the 3rd cat making the noise as some other threads have suggested. The noise seems to only come under hard acceloration, from a stop. Hasn't been heard while accelorating at "cruising speed". Is my baby going to bee OK??

Message: I just posted the same problem! I have an 02' R/T that dose the same thing. It's driving me nuts! I have had the tailshaft seal replaced in mine after a mid-pump failure whiel runnung it at high rpm (95mph-overdrive off....bad idea!) It didn;t make any differance.
If you find out what it is let me know!!

Message: Took the truck to the local Dodge dealership today. Called me to tell me they couldn't find anything. They couldn't duplicate the sound that I was describing. As soon as I picked the truck up, it did it cleaving the parkinglot. Unfortunately it was after-hours and they were already closed. I had my wife drive the car up the driveway and I could hear it clear as day, and so could she. Its definitely coming from the rear-end. I checked on Dodgetruckworld, and there seems to be a common problem with the rearends in the Rams and Dakotas with the 9.92LSD. Clutch pack retainer clip seems to be breaking loose and causing some pretty significant damage. Tomarrow morning after I drive over the mechanics head, I'm going to request thet they pull the rear diff. cover to search for parts and pieces. Thank God gor the extended warranty.
FYI, keep up on your diff. maintenance if you have this rearend setup.
