Subject: fuel problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1997 5.2 with 156,000 mi. Lately the fuel guage drops to empty, dings a few times and goes back to the proper fill reading. Now it intermittently dies out when starting up. Hot or cold. I get a good initial surge then nothing. By woring with it, eventually the rpms are ok and it runs fine. I believe the first problems can be fixed by a new sending unit in the tank. But what about the starting problem? Can they be related? I get different answers from mechanics.

Message: your probably right about the sending unit. but if you have that many miles consider getting a new fuelfilter/ regulator. if its the same as my 1995 318 it comes together as one unit and it costs like50 bucks at a dodge dealer. mine would hardly start and didnt have as much power passing cars .
