Message: I switched to Mobil-1 5w-30 and WIX 51085 at my first oil change.
When I change mine, I spend the time to jackthe truck up some and drain ALL the oil I can. I'll let it drain over a choice beverage before reinstalling the drain plug and new filter.

Message: Oil filter removal trick; Cut the bottom off a two liter soda bottle, loosen filter so it it can be turned by hand(but not enough to leak oil),put bottle over filter and finish removal, it will catch any oil that would of run down your arm. Works great on my 4.7.

Message: Mobil-1 is cheap at Wal-mart. Use the 5w-30 and a Fram PH-8A filter.

Message: On my 2000 4.7 liter, I use mobil 1 5/30 full synthetic and change my oil and filter every 5K.
I hear fram filters are the worst you can buy, I go with Purolator pure one filters.

Message: If you're leasing the vehicle and will turn it in at the end in a couple of years, don't waste your money on synthetics. It will show you no benefit. If you plan to keep it a long time, use Amsoil or Mobile One. They are the two most reasonably priced pure synthetics. Purolator "Pure One" filters are the best mid-priced filters. Stay away from Fram and the no-name brands. Mobil One has a new extended drain oil to compete with Amsoil. I haven't done any research on it yet, but you may want to check it out. You only have to change your oil once a year with Amsoil, and your filter twice, as long as you keep it under 25k mi. If you do the math, Amsoil is a pretty good deal. Amsoil is also the only one who has a synthetic tranny fluid approved for Mopar use. Although, I have been told by a transmission builder I know that you are perfectly safe using Mobil One tranny fluid also.

Message: As usual the Amsoil junkies come out. BS. Dodge uses Mobil One exclusively in the SRT's and recommends it for all trucks and severe duty cars.
My dad uses it in his 04 Hemi QC Ram. Get it cheap at WalMart and put it in. Do NOT use a Fram filter - they're garbage. Use the Mobil One filter or a K&N Performance filter. Wix is also quality.
Use Royal Purple in the diff/s and transfer case. It has the limited slip lube built into it so you don't need to buy that special.
Between the synthetic oil and diff/transfer case you will pick up a few mpg as well. My dad picked up just over 3 mpg on his Hemi Ram.
