Subject: just put on a super 40 muffler... IP: Logged
Message: well i just got out of school last year and am working at a dealership. today at lunch i pulled my truck in to see how hard it would be to put it my new super 40 series muffler. to my luck, the stock muffler and the super 40 were just about the same size. so i started putting it in and with some of the guys help, it was in with just enough time for a drive around the parking lot. well when i first started it up, they all said it sounded nice and so did i. but when i revved it up i was kinda dissapointed in the niose level. i thought it was going to be alot louder than it was. everyone else said that it is a good thing that it wasnt that loud. i am still very happy with it and love how it idles but past around 3000rpm i wish i could hear the exhaust rumbling over the engine. but then again, maybe it sound different from outside the cab. well im still glad its on and love the sound. hey........ now i can say my truck isnt stock! lol

Message: Go 65-70, running alongside the truck with your ear on the pipe. Should sound louder then.

Message: yeah, now you can start to add to that list there ;-). it probably just needs to break in and then it'll get louder. my regular 40 series took about 3 weeks to start sounding really good. when it starts getting louder let someone else drive it down the road and back to see how it sounds when driving. i let someone take mine down my street and around the corner, when they pulled back around it sounded like a V8, could still tell it was a 6 but sounded like a really mean 6.

Message: I just had the same muffler installed on my 99 5.2. You are right. Sounds great a low rpm, but higher RPM it sounds stock. Well at least it is not too loud to piss off the cops and neighbors (still sounds good though). When I decelerate I can hear a lot of popping sounds. I hope this is not a sign of motor problems.

Message: Man, I have an 03 Quad cab had a flowmaster 40 dual out with turn downs, I just 1 hr ago, took that thing off, it was starting to piss me off... WAY TOO MUCH interior noise, at least for me, so I just replaced mine with a Magnaflow single in/dual out with turn downs and SWEEEET HEAVENS the interior noise is barely above stock, very very easily to live with, let a friend drive it up the road, just cruising not loud, just a little louder, stomp it and holy cow! I am very pleased with the magnaflow, I wont be changing my mufflers on my V-8ed s-15 but for a daily driver... sweeeet!

Message: my super 40 has barely no interior noise at idle or cruising. it gets louder when you step on it but kinda wish it was louder. sometimes i even turn down my stereo when i want to hear it. still pleased with it and since it was a christmas present, i didnt lose a dime. mine is a single in single out, i just swapped it for the stock muffler and left the stock piping. maybe the dual out changes the noise level? do u have the 4.7 or the 5.7? ive got a 5.2

Message: Earlier this year I switched my stock muffler for a single/in single/out Magnaflow ('98 5.2). I left everything stock because it was in great condition. I'm pretty happy with it. Idles deep. Driving isn't much louder than stock. Only time your really hear it scream is when you step on it.

Message: My Super 40 was installed a couple of months ago and it does get louder. It has a very deep sound at idle and a good deep sound going down the road but never loud inside the cab. I think the Super 40 was designed to be deep at idle but less interior noise than the regular 40 series. Perfect for me.

Message: i have a super 40 on my 98 reg cab 318 and im pleased with it. the reason why its not as loud as the regular 40 is becuase its a "delta flow" series muffler and those are supposed to have less interior noise. also flowmaster says that the super 40 is the highest flowing 2 chamber muffler they make. now that im used to the sound id like to have it a little louder..i guess some cat converter work will have to be done to get more sound

Message: My buddy just got a regular 40 series and if you read the box under the super 40 thats specifically what flowmaster claims. Good low end rpm noise but less interior noise and reverb. I've got the regular 40 on my 99 5.2 dak with nothing past the muffler and love it. Aggressive tone and theres no mistake when I show up at a party or when Im stompin on it.

Message: I had 50 series deltaflow installed last week (single in dual out, turndowns); I got up under it when it was being installed because I wasn't sure which to get (40 or 50 series), and I was concerned about the loudness--they gunned it for me to hear. The 40s were pretty loud and the 50s a little less so.
I really like the sound of the 50s--loud, but not obnoxiously so. I even think they are a little too loud in the cab, so the 40s must be really loud. Love the sound and (perceived?) power increase!

Message: Hi all,
I have a 97' dak club cab 318, with 83,000 on er' and just had 3" pip with a 3" Magnaflow High Flow Cat to a single 3" in Flowmaster 40 with dual 2 1/2 " out pip to 3 1/2 " tips,Sounds extreamly nice, loud and throaty, but ever since there has been either a fluttering or like a drum roll type ping from the sounds like left side of engine, only does it when given gas, doesn't matter if a little or a lot of gas, noise continues?....any ideas?...maybe exhaust leak up front?....the new 3" pip start where the manifolds join, could it be valves? Pistons? Any input will be appreciated, thanx.

Message: as shown on the flowmastermufflers.com site..the part numbers arent the same
if you search by application on my truck, the super 40 is different than the regular delta flow 40
40 Series Delta Flow, 2.50" IN (C) / OUT (O), 4" x 9.75" x 13": 842542
Super 40 Muffler, 2.50" IN (C)- OUT (O), 5" x 10" x 13" Case: 95254
also, the size of the muffler case isnt the same between the both not to mention the difference in price roughly around 20 bucks...
