Subject: Does a tow hitch come with tow package? IP: Logged
Message: I picked up my 04 QC yesterday. It has the tow
package but I have not seen the thing with the
ball on it anywhere. Should one be in the
truck anywhere? Are any tools hidden in the
truck?
If it is not included what would be the best
weight distributing hitch to use with the
factory tow package reciever?
Thanks

Message: Yo Bruce.
NO, Dodge does not give you a free tow hitch.
Under your rear bumper, right at center, should be what looks like a square pipe. That's the hitch receiver, where you put the ball thing (hitch) that you have to buy.

Message: Ok, so I get a receiver but no tow hitch with
the tow package. Seems strange but I know I can
stop looking for it now.
So can I plug a weight distributing hitch into
the tow package receiver?

Message: Well, before you buy a hitch you would have to have a trailer and buy the hitch that brings the (correct size) ball to the correct height. There are different "drop" hitches or vice versa. For instance mine holds the ball 2 inches under the height of the receiver on my 4X4. That makes my trailer sit level.
Therefore giving a hitch with a truck would be useless because it would not likely be the correct one.

Message: In the glove box you should find a 7 to 4 pin adapter for trailers with 4 pin connection; and I think a wiring kit to simplify addition of a brake controler. If you're towing something heavy enough to need weight distribution hitch you'll want brakes. What are you towing ? As Graphite says, there are several different ball sizes, and many different rise or drop heights; so it would really be more surprising if tow package came with a hitch. You sound like you're new at this, loaded properly (more weight in front of trailer axle than behind), you can tow quite a bit before you'll need a weight distributing hitch.
