Message: I called my local dealer to get my tranny serviced and asked if they carried Amsoil products, which they did not have or carry. I found some at Napa and called back to get an appointment and told them I would have my own fluid and continued to explain what I wanted to be put in. The rep told me they can' do that and if I use it I may void my warrenty since it is not the recomended ATF +4 is this true or what can I do I really want to switch to a better fluid.

Message: That's strange - I went to Christopher Dodge World in Golden, Co. yesterday and picked up the two tranny filters and RTV for my '02 and when he asked if I had my fluid already I said "yes". He lowered his eyebrows and asked what kind. When I said "Amsoil", he actually looked relieved and said "ahh, the good stuff". This was the Parts Manager I was talking to. Funny how there can be such varying opinions between a parts man and a service rep.

Message: Service Reps who are unaware of the quality of non-factory fluids WILL say that. If he is not aware of the quality, he does not know it from cooking oil. What would you tell a customer assuming you had no knowledge of the quality of an aftermarket fluid?
The parts guy spoken to has probably had some experience with those fluids.

Message: Yeah that's a bummer, if your tranny puked even though the Amsoil didn't cause the problem the dealer would have a cow that you didn't use ATF+4 and probably deny the repair.
The only thing you have to worry about with switching to Amsoil is the dealer b1chin about a waranty repair. I have been running Amsoil Universal ATF in my 00 45RFE tranny for 50-60K and it still looks great, no worries.

Message posted by Sephiroth:
"I went in to have my brakes checked today, and when I walked into the garage the first thing I saw made my jaw hit the floor. My local dealership now uses and sells AMSOIL products!! They've got it posted on a big banner over the service-desks. GM may not have been able to get it for their 'vettes, but obviously Dodge was able to, or they found out how awesome it is and started buying at regular price! When I go in for a tranny-filter, fluid, and gasket change next week, it's getting filled with AMS."
Sephiroth went on to state:
"This is at the Raleigh, NC dealership, Al Smith Buick, Dodge, Mazda. I told the guy at the desk I was astounded to see them using AMSOIL and that I had been using it for a while now. After he rode in the truck he said he'd be switching next oil-change in his Ram.
As for me, I've got it in the engine, and I'll have it in the tranny soon! Next up are the differentials. After that I need to get a dyno just for curiosity's sake. IF I get 3-5hp form the differential, and God knows how much from the engine and tranny, that'll be enough without any heavy mods. Well, for all I do anyway. If it is a significant gain, I'll post the results."

Message: Your warranty can not be denied for putting water in it, UNLESS a given failure can be determined that it was due to the water.
You can modify your vehicle anyway you choose. BUT if any modification is found to have caused (or be related to the cause) an otherwise covered part to fail, any coverage on that part (and other related failed parts) is up to the manufacturer of the modification.
The exception is extended warranties and service contracts. These companies have every right to say what you can and can not put into your vehicle, AND I have seen this right exercized, often. I have even seen some of these extended warranties require transmission fluid/filter changes on 12,000 mile intervals. Read the fine print if you have an extended warranty.

Message: A question here. Maybe Mr. Roark can provide direction...
I remember reading something about the Magnuson-something warranty act stating that if the dealer specifies only their products can be used to service a vehicle to keep the warranty valid they *must* provide the parts/products for free.
Therefore, if the only ATF +4 approved fluid would be the MOPAR offering then shouldn't we get it for free? I am not keen on ATF +4 products, are there any other manufacturers? Just a thought.

Message: First time I went to get trany filters at the dealer the parts guy tried to sell me a couple of gallons of ATF+4 for the tranny. I asked him if that was the "free stuff" in light of Magnuson-Moss and it only being available from the dealership. We both had a good laugh on that one. Magnuson-Moss is only good if it's enforced. Obviously, DC doesn't give a crap about Magnuson Moss and would rather suffer the concequeces of future legal issues than kill thier CASH COW.

Message: Yes ... per the Magnusson-Moss Act, the dealer must prove that what you did caused the failure. Funny thing is ... just having them say "you did this and it caused the failure" is proof enough. Sad but true.

Message: Well that depends on what you mean by problems.
The Amsoil will help protect your tranny better than ATF+4 since ATF+4 is hydrocracked dino, they call it synthetic even though it's a highly refined bottle of dead dinosuars, it's not the same thing as Amsoil synthetic ATF.
You will have problems with DC's warranty if they know or can prove that you use an ATF other than ATF+4.

Message: I think that Chrysler gets away with the Mag/Moss act by stating that you must meet the ATF+4 spec. Interesting though, they haven't licensed anyone else to make a fluid to that spec. (they have with ATF+3) Also interesting, I read a complaint filed months ago by a lubrication trade group against DC for this issue. they also claimed that DC had "quotas" on dealer purchases of ATF+4. Dont know if its true, but hey! I've used Amsoil ATF in several different DC products for years (some with extensive towing - some over 150K miles) and I have never had a trans problem. In fact, we use it in my brother's 96 Intrepid - and everyone else he works with that drives that vintage trep has had a trans problem - except him. You decide for yourself. But I sleep better knowing that I've done the best for my trans!
