Subject: Intermittent Cruise Control Operation IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99 5.9 and about a week ago the cruise suddenly stopped working. When you turn on the cruise initially the light comes one like it is going to work. Then after about 3-5 seconds depending on its mood the light goes out and no worky worky. If you turn off the ignition then restart the vehicle you can duplicate this process again. I am at a loss about what is happening here. Is there a fuse for the cruise? (I couldnt find one) Is it failing some kind of internal test and thats why the light shuts off?? If anyone has any knowledge about this please help. Thanks

Message: Ok then,
Does anyone know where the cruise control fuse is? It is not in the fuse block on the left side of the drivers dash or under the hood that i can find. Owners manual nor service manual show where but both state that there is one. WTF?

Message: I'm not 100% sure but I *think* if the speed
sencor is going bad, the cruise won't work.
You might check into that, dodgerango.
Let us know what you find..

Message: Ok, The speed sensor seems to be fine. Also i pulled the DTCs and there were none recorded. Tried to see if the wheel position had anything to do with it but it seems to do it whether i move the steering wheel or not. The light comes on for about 3 seconds then turns off. To get it to turn on again you have to turn off the ignition and turn it back on. Then again 3 seconds and the light goes out. could this still be the clockspring? Just ran out of the extended warranty a few months ago wouldnt ya know... ugg

Message: Possible sensor on the rear diff.. May be a bulletin or recall on the wiring back there if I remember correctly, but don't quote me on it.

Message: mine does this too, but only if I have been tapping on my brakes in rapid sucession... like to wake up the brain dead a$$hole on my tail as we come into traffic (etc). If I turn off the truck and restart it, it's fine.
I don't know if that helps you, but maybe there's a relay off the brake lights for disengagement that can stick open or shut and cause the system to shut down?
Just a WAG.

Message: hmm... i didnt know about the rear diff or the brake light thing. Dont know if the brake switch would cause the light to go out or not but its worth a check at least. I will hunt around and see what i can find out may have to resort to taking it to the dealership...ugg
