Subject: tran.s fluid change - how to? IP: Logged
Message: hey guys,,dumb question. On the 4.7 motor and related transmission - what's the proper procedure for changing the tranny fluid? I don't see a fill tube besides the dip for it. Do you fill there? Is the only choice for draining dropping the pan?

Message: You can avoid a lot of the mess by pushing a tube down the filler pipe and siphoning out the great majority of the the sump fluid.

Message: Correct RaZoR1 about the two filters. Both inside
tranny also bumbo.
First time changing is kinda messey. Install a
drain kit while the pan if off. Makes it a lot
easier next time around.
Stick with Chrysler's ATF+4 fluid also unless
your draining EVRYTHING including converter and
cooling lines to radiator. DON'T MIX! Chrysler is
ALWAYS looking for ways to void a warranty. You
can only get ATF+4 at the dealership. Not cheap
either. My system took almost 8 quarts to refill.
And remember this bumbo, NO QUESTION IS EVER TOO
DUMB TO ASK!
Good luck.
