Subject: RE: High mileage V8's IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 dodge durango with 125,ooo miles
on it. A couple of months ago I started hearing
a noise that sounded like a vehicle with farm tires on it. It only makes the sound when you
drive straight or turn the wheel to the right.
When you turn the wheel to the left slightly or
to turn a corner it doesn't make the noise. I
was wondering if there was anyone out there that
might have some clue as to what the problem is?

Message: Sounds like a wheel bearing going out. By
turning one dirrection or the other you are
loading and unloading the inner and outer
races in the bearing. Jack the front wheels up
and you should be able to feal the roughness
in the suspension as the wheel is spun. This
will tell you which side is the problem.

Message: hearing about your 109k r/t makes me feel much better!!
with about 45000 miles ive only had to replace tires and a power steering pump (dont try and spin the ass-end around on bumpy pavement) cracked the shaft right in 2...ick.
pulling a 13.00 on motor, do you think i can see 150k without rebuilding (will have new heads, cam, headers etc etc in spring)

Message: I know all trucks have issues. I love my dodge. except for the stuff I listed, it has been the best truck I ever owned. I just need a deisel for the high milage and pulling power. I also want a crew cab now that I have a son and another in the future. I would get a dodge crew cab deisel but they just started makin them and I aint payin 35-45K for a pickup. That's why I was going to get the ford.

My 97 5.2L has been fantastic; a little over 76,000 miles, including 2 cross-country trips through the SW in mid-summer with nothing but an oil change. I've only had some minor issues with one brake caliper, and I had the standard 60,000 mile overhaul. This engine is bulletproof.
