Subject: Hello IP: Logged
Message: Just thought I would make a quick post and introduce myself. My name is Chris and I located in Central California.
Found this website about 2 weeks ago.
We just purchased a new 2001 Dakota about a month ago. It was the last one sitting on the lot, so we got a rather decent deal on it ... even though it is loaded to the hilt with things I didn't even want. Ah well.
The truck is a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab ... 4.7 L, Auto, AWD/4x4, LSD, 3.55, and a boat load more. Only has 650 miles on it ... so haven't had the balls yet to get her off-road. Perchance sometime this summer. Same goes for mods ... probably won't mess with it for a good 8-12 months ... enjoying it as it is right now.
I am enjoying reading through all of the posts on the V8 board and the Off Road board ... so these are probably where you will find me the most.
I am sure I will be chimming in with questions / posts in the near future !

Message: Greetings 12GA Dak
Thanks - sure is a heck of a lot nicer than the 94 F-150 4x4 that we traded in ! :>
The Dak is Intense Blue pearl coat. Has the chrome package (including the rims), so she shines right now - until I get-up the nerve to go off-road. :>
Now if I can just get the wife to stay at home 1 time so I can see EXACTLY what it can do ...

Message: Congrats on the purchase, and welcome to "our" world, DragonHawk!!
The Quad Cabs are great! I tried putting off my purchase because it was the first year production, but in the end, I bought a 2000 Quad Cab...about 20 minutes after test driving it...hehe
As for four-by'ing ability, they are pretty capable trucks, and that's saying a lot, as I have owned a pretty tricked out CJ-7 and I've spent 7-years beating around USMC's hummers!! 8^)
Not only that, but given our long cab & shortened box, they have really good weight distribution which aids traction & handling...something that Colorado winters like testing out from time-to-time.
On a side note, you might check out groups.yahoo.com. There is a Quad Cab group over there...it isn't too active, but it is another group to bounce ideas around & ask for input.

Message: Welcome aboard, DH. You'll find that you'll like the stuff you '...didn't want...' that came with the rig. Drive smart, we'd like to see you stay around the site! You'll find in-town handling is more like a car than a truck, which also makes it great for towing and manuvering in tighter spaces. One adder to consider: install an 'extend-a-bed'. Does wonders for being able to stuff bigger loads into the bed [gate open] without fancy roping as well as providing an area for keeping items from sliding around when the gate is closed.

Message: If you get a Steel Horse bed extender, get the one for the full-size trucks.
I use our bed extender all the time on our Quad. Another accessory I installed is the "Rail N Rack" system from Seaport Machine (www.seaportmachine.com). It is a lumber rack that folds down into attractive bed rails. Can be used for kayaks, canoes, whatever. I screwed a couple of small dog collars onto the area just above the right fender well with large, flat washers to strap the "Rail N Rack" cross arms into the bed, straddling the right fender well. Wehn collapsed they fit up under the bed lip there and just across the fender well so they are out of the way.
