Subject: removal of front drive axles IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 dakota cc 4x4 w/5.2L
I tow a camper that weighs aprox. 4000+ when loaded and am looking to squeeze a few extra miles out of my gas tank. Would it save me much if I removed the front axles. Would it be worth the time.I have looked for reasonably priced extra capacity tanks but have not found anything.Any help would be appreciated.

Message: It probably would help the mileage if you were to remove the frontshafts because the truck does not have a front disconnect but I believe that the outer end of the axle shaft holds the front hub bearing together.
So if you take your front axles out, the front wheels will fall off.
