Subject: R/T vs SRT-4
IP: Logged

Message:
I own a 2002 R/T. I've only had it a few months so everythings stock(but optioned out) except for my fiberglass tonneau cover. My friend is getting in the next week the new glorified neon the SRT-4.

How am I going to stack up against him when I head down to the track?

Any tips?

A stock SRT-4 will run at least in the low 14s. Biggest problem will be traction because of fwd. Depending upon if the R/T is a reg. or club cab, a stock one will generally run 15.3 to 15.8. There are exceptions ... some slower, some quicker.

And it depends on how good the driver of the SRT-4 is. I watched some drag racing a few weeks ago and a bunch of the Srt-4s were running in the 15s. Some were in the 14's and 1 with the mopar stage 2 was around 13.8. So if you do some mods to your truck you might be able to hang with or even beat him.

He can walk the SRT-4 off the line and will still have such a rediculous top-end charge....well, hold onto your headlights.

Don't get pumped about racing the srt4. It will walk you without trying hard. Have fun though because that is what it's all about.

An RT does not stand a chance, the srt-4 will beat it by nearly 2 seconds in the 1/4. An srt would have a hell of a time haulin plywood or towin a trailer though. The R/T is quick for a TRUCK but is slow in comparison when run down the strip. The HEMI 1/2 ton rams are also quite pokey in the 1/4 (16.2 4x4 and 15.4 2x4) very respectible but not quick enough to beat an srt-4 or even a 300c (13.8 and 14.1). I would own an SRT-4 if I could afford it and my dakota, but I can't so I have to settle for a TRUCK that feels fast but is still practical. I must be getting old.

Gen1dak should get a tissue and wipe the glue residue from around his nose if he thinks a 5.9R/T will pull an SRT-4 from the start! They hook up amazingly well for a front driver and being that the srt actually has an underrated 230hp (wheel hp has been recorded at 225 compared to the 180, at best, for the 5.9) the dakota would have a hard time getting close enough to smell the srt's exhaust at the big end of the track! I own an R/T and have driven a few SRTs and the truck will not even come close.

Now this is where so many arguements start. I stated as plainly as I could that even if an SRT "walked" off the line, meaning a very easy launch, it'd still smoke an RT (with the rediculous top-end charge so well known in turbo cars), and immediately somebody pops off and is mis-quoting me. "He" was a reference to the SRT driver, not the RT driver, as if it could be anyone else. Now which one of us is sniffing glue?
