Message: Hey everyone, I've been looking at a 2000 Dodge Dakota, thinking about buying it. But I would like your opinions on it. It has just shy of 90,000 miles on it already, a little high mileage. But from what I've been hearing and reading on other sites, the Dakotas are pretty sound trucks, very reliable, and don't seem to have too much major problems. What are your thoughts? Should I be concerned that it has 90,000 miles and only 4 years old? It's a V8 4.7L. I'd like to hear what you think, your advice/opinions on it. Thanks!

Message: Mine has almost 80k. Still as strong as the day I bought it. If the seller takes care of it, you should have no problems.
I have a 2000 4.7l with a 5 speed transmission. The only major repair was the clutch.

Message: The only problems you could potentially have are in the front suspenion. Ball joints, tie rod ends, hub assemblies. He may have already had these replaced. If you buy the parts on your own and have them put onby a trusted mechanic its not all that expensive.
More than likely most of those 90K miles are highway.
My '00 4.7L 2wd 5spd is still solid and running strong. it has 52K on it now. I've replaced my tie rod ends and one hub assembly. I upgraded my brakes for performance reason not because they were bad. My dak has been a great truck so far. I look forward to putting another 50-100K miles on it.

Message: How much they asking? Mileage seems pretty high. Normal would be around 60,000. CThomp is right about the ball joints. Hopefully they have been replaced. Had mine done under warranty at only 15,000 miles.
