Message: What are you going to do with your truck? What size/type of tire do you have? How much torque are putting through it? Any towing? Where do you live? All these are important questions to answer before you decide on what's right for you.

Message: Count the bolts on the rear cover. 12 bolts=9.25, 10 bolts = 8.25. There is a tag held on by one of those bolts. It has the gear ratio stamped on it. It's probably 3.55. You didn't mention if it was a manual or auto. A lot of the 5spd manuals came with 3.23 gears because the manual already had a real low 1st gear.

Message: 1st gear is low as hell! I have 3.92's and 5 speed, my truck redlines in first at 18 mph. very low profile tires though. 255/40/17. I almost never use 1st. 4.56's would give you a top speed of 80-something with the 5 speed. maybe 90-something, but i doubt it.

Message: I went and looked it does have a 8 1/4 10 bolt rear i guess i should probably stick with the 4.10's and not 4.56's? i would figure this rearend housing wouldnt be as stout as a 9 1/4 i don't wanna blow this on my daily driver by the way are the R/T differentials 8 1/4 or 9 1/4 and do they have suregrips factory installed i know they came with 3.92 gears, thanks for all the info guys!

Message: The R/T's have 9.25. There is an advantage to the 8.25. There is less HP and torque lost through friction and reciprocating weight than with the 9.25. That equates to more HP being put to the ground. Also, there is less unsprung weight which means better handling and less bouncing/hopping over bumps. I wouldn't be too dissapointed with the 8.25. 4.11's are readily availabler for the 8.25 as with lockers.

Message: I swapped in 4.56 gears into my 8 1/4 but I would not run 26" tires with them on the street. My tires on the street and at the strip are 28" tires.

Message: ticats,
That's a damn good 1/4 time. Have you done anything to the engine? What cam are you running?
I'm getting ready to make some mods to my R/T. I just bought a set of JBA headers. I'm probably going to get the R/T cam next.

Message: Engine has a cam, beefed up valvetrain components and roller rockers. I'm using the Hughes 1418 cam but did run 14.31 with the MP R/T cam (1st generation one).
