Message: Does anyone know where I can get pics of the backside of a 2000 4.7L intake manifold? I'm planning on installing the 2004 intake manifold and I looking for anything that can cause problems with the intake change. I like to plan any work well in advance so that I'm not left with an undriveable vehicle until I fix the problem. I can't see the backside of my intake and I need to know if there's anything totally different between the 2 manifolds. Thanks!

Message: I have been told that there are several small differences in the way stuff is mounted to the new manifold but the only issue I know for sure is that the IAT sensor location has changed and the new intakes do not use a screw in IAT (like your 2000 uses). Apparently they now use a bayonet style twist in IAT, so you need to buy a new IAT sensor. They are cheap.
I am changing to the 2002 HO manifiold since I am interested in top end HP. The newest manifold develops more low end and mid range at the expense of high end.

Message: Yeah, I already bought a new style IAT sensor for $5.75 but, I noticed on pics of the 2002 HO and the 2004 manifold there's a fitting for about a 1/2" hose and I don't see any hoses going down to that area of the manifold. Of course, like I stated earlier, I can't really see back there very well.
I haven't heard anything really positive about the 2002 HO from the people that have changed to it. I figured since the newer manifold is what they use on the latest HO motor as well as the standard engine, it probably doesn't take away any power (I hope). The other thing is that the low and mid range power is more useable in daily driving, at least for me. I also just ordered a Fastman 68 mm throttle body which I'm told really wakes up the '99 & '00 4.7L because the stock TB is only about 62 mm. I'm hoping this will really wake up my WJ. So far all the mods I've done have improved power, drivability and fuel economy.

Message: Got my Fastman 68 mm today and installed it because Dan says he needs the core back ASAP! It already seems to idle better (my old one needed to be cleaned). It started to snow why I was working on it. But, if things go right, I plan on doing the manifold change this weekend. I already found a couple of things I need to do first. The new manifold has less vacuum ports than my 2000 so, I'll need to get one the fitting to split the line into 2 connectors plus the PCV hose is probably too short. Anyway, nothing too complicated, just gotta make that trip to the'zone. Update to follow.

Message: Haha...I bet he needs it asap cause i got impatient, called him today, and ordered the tb and manifold from him, probably needs your core to make my tb...hope he cleans it well. Anyways, I wonder if my '02 manifold has more vacuum ports as well..hmm...thanks for the update and let me know everything you had to do to make it work...I'm hoping to get my tb and manifold by next week sometime.

Message: Well, it looks like no manifold installation this weekend. Had some other things come up plus the weather wasn't cooperating. It'll have to wait until next weekend. Plus I might have some good news for those of us with the 4-speed tranny.

Message: Relax, don't drink so much caffeine. I won't know anything until Friday morning so, you're just going to have to wait until then. Besides, if I make an announcement and it doesn't pan out, you're going to feel silly for being all anxious about it and then let down. Plus, even if things work out, it may not help some people.

Message: Man, If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. First, I had to put off the intake manifold installation because of a combination of work and the fact that I had to order a 2004 version of the PCV hose from the oil spout to the back of the manifold because my 2000 version won't reach. Why don't any of the auto parts stores carry 7/16" to 1/2" ID emissions rated hose? When I ordered it, I was told it would be here the next day; here it is Friday and the part isn't here yet? Now for what was to be my BIG announcement for 45RFE owners. I had an appointment to have my TCM flashed to the latest code level. This was suppose to improve shift quality and add another OD gear of .67:1 ratio which would be an 8% higher OD gear. Ideally, my rpm in top gear at 80 mph would have dropped about 300 rpm. I would then get a 1-2 mpg fuel economy increase (maybe?). But since that gray cloud keeps following me around, I waited 1.5 hours to be told that it couldn't be done because the dealer connected up my vehicle and dialed into corporate and entered my VIN into the system and kept getting bumped out of the program. They finally determined that my vehicle was being rejected because there aren't any authorized firmware upgrades for my vehicle. What can I say? I'm sorry to get those of you excited for a non-event. At least I didn't announce it ahead of time.

Message: Rob C
Sorry to hear bout all the setbacks, I know how frustrating they can get..In terms of the tranny, I suspected thats what you were referring too, I wonder if my 2002 would have the proper vin for this though, when talk of this update first surfaced about a year ago the two dodge dealerships i went to where clueless and said it coudlnt be done (or maybe I am clueless and it can't as you have found it) either way they didnt want to it. I wonder if my pcv hose is too short, anyone know if 02 use a different length hose then the 04's or from the 00's for that matter? Anything else you realized u needed for the install Rob C? Thanks for the info, and don't worry, didnt you know the more bad luck u have the more good luck u accumulate?

Message: The only other problem I noticed was that Mopar had reduced the number of vacuum ports by adding a Tee (it's actually Y shaped) to combine the hoses for the speed control and LDP into one fitting at the manifold. I was able to buy a T-connector at PepBoys. It was white colored and would really stand out so I colored it black with a sharpy marker. It doesn't look real good but at least it won't draw immediate attention to itself like a flashing white beacon.
I think the 2002 has the same problem with the PCV hose as my 2000. You better do the research now or you may get caught off guard. The Mopar part is only $5.50 list

Message: I went online to mopardistributor online to order the pcv valve and they list the pcv valve as the same from 02-04 so hopefully mine is all good. Do u happen to know what the t-shaped connecter may be called so I can check that for the 02's? If not its all good as you say pep boys had it in stock, either way thanks again for the heads up.

Message: Pittdawg, I was talking about the PCV hose that goes between the PCV valve and the connector on the back of the manifold. On the newer manifold design, Mopar moved it to the opposite side of the manifold or about 3.5" towards the left and down about 1.5" plus, the connector points out instead of to the right. I decided that it was cheaper to buy the exact part from the dealer than to try and adapt my part which may or may not work. PN 53032617AD
The Fastman TB is working great. I think I'm not getting the full benefit because my transmission doesn't always shift the way it should. I don't think there's anything wrong with my tranny, I just think the 45RFE is a little quirky somethings.
I haven't installed the manifold yet but, if the weather cooperates, I will do it this weekend. The initial weather forecast called for snow but, this afternoon the weatherman predicted that the storm is going to pass us by so, we'll see.
I've got the HO cams, K&N FIPK II, Dynomax Ultraflo SS catback, Fastman 68mm TB, NGK Iridium sparkplugs and Edelbrock IAS shocks. I haven't been disappointed by any of these modifications.

Message: Just got my manifold and tb in from fed ex. Gotta take the dak in for warranty (rear wheel speed sensor i think) work first, as the abs and brake light wont go off. Anyways, after that, hopefully next saturday when my friend with all the tools gets back in town we'll do in the install. However, I'm so ansy, I'm considering breaking down and just paying a shop to do it...depends on whether i can get a fair price...called one shop today they wanted $90, i told them to quit hustlin.

Message: Hey! I finally got the manifold installed but, I won't be able to tell you if it's an improvement until the PCM figures thing's out. I had plenty of little problems crop up. The PCV hose I bought was different on both ends and I didn't notice until I was almost finished with the installation and was trying to hook up the PCV valve to the hose. First, It doesn't reach all the way to the valve, like it's 4 inches too short. Secondly, the hose diameter is 1/2" ID and my 2000 used a 3/8" ID hose. I wasted a lot of time running around town trying to find something to adapt it. Anyway, that really set me back. When I finally got out to test drive it, that little gray cloud was following me again. Everywhere I went the traffic was such that there was alway someone in front of me driving slowly and no place to pass. Things to watch out for during the installation are: The AC compressor and Alternator mount to an alloy casting, the fit is extremely tight and taking them off and on is very time consuming. You have to be very careful pulling off the fuel rail because the O-ring kit is $85 from the dealer and no one else has the kit so, you'd better not damage any O-rings, you need to reuse them. The oil dipstick tube was in the way almost for everything, It even made it difficult to line up the manifold because even before you have the manifold in place the dipstick tube is pressing again the manifold. I would have removed it if I could be sure that I would be able to reinstall it after I was done without a leak. I'll let you know in a few days after the PCM has compensated, if there's been an improvement.
