Subject: 4.7 cooling system ? IP: Logged
Message: I just realized that the stock t-stat has a pin that closes the by-pass when it opens(I think that`s how it goes). When I put in the 180 t-stat I lost that function(no pin style available on 180`s). I don`t understand this by-pass design, could somebody explain it for me?

Message: Are you talking about the little hole with the metal insert that is mounted kind of on the rim of the Tstat?

Message: oh yeah, I was thinking about that little hole as well. I don't remember if the RS t-stat I put in last summer had a little hole, or if it didn't, did I make one. What does it do and what would happen if I didn't make that hole?

Message: No, not the little hole in the t-stat for bleeding air(I assume that`s what it`s for). The stock t-stat has a pin that closes the by-pass when it opens to regulate the cooling system better? Or something like that. Someone gave this short explanation on another thread. I just was hoping someone could explain it better. I am especially curious because I am running a 180. It doesn`t have the pin to close the by-pass. I know it isn`t critical but still would like to know because DC designed it in and I (and anyone else running a 180))designed it out, sort to speak.
