Message: Hey guys, I was just looking at another truck today, a 2001 Dak with a 4.7V8 but it's an SLT and not a sport. I was just wondering what the difference is between the Sport and the SLT and how hard it is to make an SLT sit like a Sport. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Thnx

Message: It's only a trim difference, more chrome=SLT, more body color=Sport. The Sport Plus package includes a small diameter rear sway bar (R/T's had thicker heavy duty version), but the tire/handling group on SLT does as well.

Message: The SLT has the ugly chrome bumpers and the drab/gray front air-dam while the sport has black plasic covering the bumpers and body-colored air-dam. Then there are the standard features. Power windows, door locks, and some other luxuries are standard on the SLT. You pay extra on the Sport for those options. The SPORT-Plus combines the good exterior looks of the Sport with the standard interior amenities of the SLT.

Message: To each his own opinion, I guess. I'm almost 40 and I think the chrome looks grandpa-ish. I haven't seen that much chrome since the 70's. The only thing that looks cheap is that gray plastic air dam they forgot to paint. Come on, at leat paint the sh!t. It would look fine with chrome bumpers if they went ahead and painted the plastic inserts on the rear bumper and the air dam on the front bumper. A brand new SLT looks like something that has been in a wreck. Why not install a primer gray hood to macth the primer gray plastic air dam? At least everything would match then. What's even worse, is the optional two tone that paints the lower body panel gray to match the gray plastic air dam. JUST PAINT THE AIR DAM for God Sakes!!!

Message: Those SLT's are ugly as hell!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree, I would rather have no air dam, than a grey textured one. Class my ass!!!!! Chrome is for lazy old men who go to coffee shops at 4:30 am, and stick around till 9am

Message: All these are good points.
I have a January 2001 built QC, SLT.
A few things they no longer have, that I have, is the thick insulation under the hood, with the Ram head on it. I think another is the folding front arm rest, with the storage in it.
I really got the SLT, cause I ordered mine with the two tone paint, which is silver, that now matches my factory, unpainted air dam!
I think the Sports look sharp, 'sportier' than the SLT.

Message: Hey Ya'll. I've got the 01' Sport Dak and I love the look. Course, I'm not much of a chrome type of a guy unless it's on a 57' Chevy Belair. But I also agree, the grey air dams look terrible. Should at least be the same color as the body of the truck.

Message: I just bought an 04 sport plus, traded in an sxt 3.9. The v8 makes it a completely different truck. The new 04's are nice, I only put a magnaflow on the stock pipes with a tip. K and N drop in with a fennco plumbing fix. I think I am going to try that 22 degree elbow on the fennco.
Too new so I gotta kinda keep it mostly stock.

Message: Yhe sport plus can give you all the options, it is the trim package on the exterior that is the difference one is chrome and one is body color.
Check this out my sport plus has the chrome grill that is part of the hood the rest looks sport with the body color and black bumper, it's the patriot blue.

Message: SLT (G package) = Sport (B package) in terms of equipment. An SLT doesn't have power windows standard.
SLT PLUS (H package) = Sport PLUS (C package) in terms of equipment. The PLUS gets you power windows etc.
For 2004 the sports all have a chrome grill, making the only difference the bumpers.
AND, SLT is NOT top of the line any more at all. In the rams and durangos it's the mid-line package.

Message: I really don't like the SLT that much. I really liked the sxt package on my 2002, exterior.
With the sport you can get that dark look with the dark colors. The SLT even if it is black just doesn't give that look. The Patriot blue on the sport package this year looks good.
I chose the 04 sport because of that 'dark' look.
Anyone ever do any testing on that fennco plumbing fix??? Seems to work.

Message: I've used a Fernco 4" "no-hub" fitting for over a yaer now as part of my 4.7's homebrew air intake. I also have experimented with different Fernco combinations for the inlet to the stock air box, like stacking 2-4" together to make the inlet closer to the rubber flap removal slot. Also tried the 6" Fernco, but from all indications, including mpg numbers, the single 4" seems to work best. Part of the reason for this may be the good air flow from the original fender/windshield area plus the rubber flap removal slot. Best $7 you'll ever spend. Check "What is the best intake?" for more info.
