Subject: Cat for '99 5.2L V8 IP: Logged
Message: I need to replace my catalytic converter on my '99 Dakota 5.2L 5 speed V8 4x4 Club Cab. Summit Racing says the only option is the stealership, that if I use any of after market Cats it won't pass emissions here in northern VA. Any suggestions? It is attached to a long pipe front and rear about 78" long total. Thanks, David W.

Message: Get the dealer to do it under warrenty. It is covered 8 yrs. or 80,000 miles. Just had mine done on my '99 with 78,000.

Message: Had one replaced on a 97 5.2 V8 a year or so ago under warranty (thought it was 7yrs 70K??) - read on another board about others having a rattling sound after it was replaced, which I experienced too - took it back after about a week and complained - dealership charged $35. It stopped for awhile, but it's back now. Might mention it when you take it in

Message: I had read the other posts regarding the 8 years and 80,000 miles, unfortunately, my truck has 100,000. But I did find one at DiscountConverters for $200, supposed to be a direct fit, so lets hope! Thanks, David W.
