Subject: Best and most reliable supercharger IP: Logged
Message: I plan to go to one of only 2!! places where you legally can race the 1/4 mile in Germany.
To add more HP I'd like to upgrade my 99 R/T 5.9L with a supercharger. To date I did the following mods:
- Mopar M1 intake
- Mopar PCM
- Mopar Headers
- Metal cat and 3" exhaust with dynomax race muffler and 2 supertrapps
- Fastman TB
- Accel kit
- K&N open airfilter
My questions are:
- which is in your opinion the best supercharger for the money?
- will the engine survive e.g. one hours drives at 4000RPM on the German Autobahn?
- if I add a supercharger what other mods will I have to do? Are all required parts included?
Thanks in advance
Tim

Message: The vortech supercharger kit comes with all the mods you will have to do and will usually keep your engine in good shape.. im saving up for it right now for my 00' r/t..
one more thing.. if you can hit under a 14 sec 1/4 you usually have to a roll cage.. i dont know about germany but thats a rule here...

Message: Here at Carlsbad raceway in SoCal, it's under 12 seconds where you'll need a roll cage.

Message: I have an ATI Procharger on my 03 R/T. Also a very good unit, but be prepared to spend a little more on top of the price of the kit to alleviate the lack of fuel issue if you are heavily modded.

Message: Most people go with the paxton novi 2000 blower for dakotas. The kits are complete, and give huge power increases over other blowers. also have shorter install times.

Message: If you're using the MP computer, you'll need some sort of timing retard control since boost and a lot of ignition advance do not agree. Not sure if the kits include this. If not, MSD makes the 6BTM to do just this.

Message: Seems that most units (except for maybe Powerdyne) are complete. Hopefully they also are reliable on continuous high speed driving.

That's my biggest worry - that the engine will not survive a 1+ hour trip at 3500-4000RPM.
Are there any test around?

Message: I don't see a problem spinning the motor at 3500/4000 RPM's for an hour. The only thing I see is maybe the temp will be on the high side. Other than that, it shouldn't fail. Just my $.02 Anyone else agree?

Message: Our preferred setup is the Vortech blower. It's definitely the most reliable blower we've worked with. ATI is not bad for a stock motor but they don't hold up in otherwise heavily modded motors. We had two consecutive head units come apart for example.

Message: I dont' see why you couldn't run at 3500-4000 rpms, but I would suggest a trans cooler and an intercooled system so you are not sucking hot air in the summer. You may look at ceramic coating your headers to reduce underhood temps as a start. Intercooling would definitly help with higher boost and a safer configuration for extended high RPM runs. Mike Leach out of California is the guy who does the reflash for the Mopar performance computer's supercharged applications, and I believe KRC Performance could also do this for you. That is a sweet truck, I had the same year and similar mods. Have Fun!
Later,
