Subject: 5.9L History? IP: Logged
Message: I was cruising the Dodge web site, and noticed that the 5.9L is no longer listed as an option, either for the Dakota or the Ram. Looks your only choices for the Dakota (for now) are the 3.9 and 4.7. Damn shame, that 5.9 is one fine engine. Hope the Hemi comes out this year or next in the Dakota.
I also didn't see the R/T listed anywhere, but I had heard somewhere that it was being discontinued.

Message: The 5.9's roots go back to 1955. Its time had come. www.allpar.com has some good history pages, if you're interested.

Message: Well, the 3.9 is not dead, and there's no reason why the Dakota can't get a Hemi if the Durango can. The 5.9l may be old - only 3 years older than me - but it's still a fine engine. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything except a Hemi. Sorry to see it go. If the Dakota doesn't get a Hemi, then I'll never buy another one.
But you're right, I guess I don't get out much.

Message: Dakota gone in 05 ??? Never heard that , heard that they are supposed to redsign them in that time period, hopefully they won't stick that new Durango Front end on it , don't care for that at all , styling wise I think it was a big step back for the Durango .

The Deal:The next generation of the Dodge
Dakota pickup truck has been caught on film.
Details are rare as of now, but, as the photos
show, the Dakota will carry over Ram styling
themes. These include a large grille, bulging
fenders, and aggressive headlights. While it's
still unclear whether the Dakota will be renamed
or not, it will share many components with the
forthcoming Dodge Durango.
