Subject: A/C Conversion IP: Logged
Message: The A/C on my 1991 5.2 dumped its charge. I am considering converting it from R12 to 134A. I'd appreciate some feedback about how well the A/C performs after such a conversion. Thanks.

Message: If you are going to convert systems, it is suggested that you completely convert... Replace all hoses and metal parts in the system.
Supposedly the two refridgerants do not mix well and once one is in, it is extremely hard to get all of it out. I just had AC work done on my 92 and inquired about it.
BTW, Freon is now running $4/oz. I believe that there are something like 40 oz in the system. Hopefully somebody will be able to verify this volume.

Message: #1, you don't have to replace all the metal parts.
#2, follow the manufacturer's recommended procedure:
http://www.sanden.com/support/pdf/sd7servicemanual.pdf
#3, do replace the hoses and receiver/drier
#4, you will probably need to add an electric fan; those models were short on condenser capacity.
