All I did is removed the air box leaving the stock air hat and acordion tube in place and put a K&N cone on the end of the tube. The part number I don't know but you can go to any auto zone or advanced auto and size it up even those ricer APC filters in the crazy colors works (which is what I'm running now)

I did a homebrew on my 4.7 and love it. It comes directly out from the throttlebody, throttle response is much better and the sound under full thottle is alot throatier. Also got about a 1/2mpg better milage. Check-out http://speedtweaks.net I printed a 6page description with step by step pictures and a partslist with all item #'s for Home Depot and NAPA.

I did the home brew also and loved the results. I noticed the greatest improvement towing my 2500-3000# boat. There's one long grade where the trans would shift from 3rd to 2nd about 4-5 times. Shortly after it would shift into 3rd it would drop back into 2nd because the engine didn't have enough torque to pull in 3rd. With the home brew intake on it does not do this any more, therefore I would think that the engine is producing more torque with the intake. Hell maybe Iam crazy, but it worked for me.

I put in some extra work making the intake tube. Instead of hacking off the ABS square and glueing it to the elbows, I used a die grinder to put an angle on the inside of the ABS. This aligned the inside of the ABS tube to the elbow allowing a better transition for air flow. I also relocated the AIT sensor to the intake tube so the computer would sense the colder air coming in from the air filter than in the intake manifold. Another thing, take a 2-3" peice of the ABS tube and glued it inside the open ends of the elbow. This will make them stronger and keep them from deforming when the filter and TB coupler are clamped down.

I have heard about these home brew intakes deforming in extreme heat, but have not had a problem yet. Guess well see what the 110+ temps in Las Vegas do to the intake this summer. I checked out the intake last week after driving for 2 hours in 110 temps and it was solid, the plastic wasn't getting squishy, so I think it's going to be O.K.

I can't remember the K&N P/N, but it was ths biggest one PepBoys had about 12" long and 6" in diameter. It fit right onto the elbow, cost about $60.00.

Hope this helps,
DW

I patterned my intake after one by Darcy. I bought two Vibrant 3" aluminum tubes (90 degree and straight) from an import tuner shop, Spectre boots and hose clamps, to make a direct path from the stock air box with the K&N drop-in, and the throttle body. I finished the setup off with a Fernco 4" inlet from Home Depot in place of the stock snorkel, and removed the rubber flap at the radiator/headlight. Total cost: about $150. Polished tubes and red boots look trick. REAL happy :)

Check my post under "What is the best intake?" on the Performance board for the part numbers. Fog/mist/drizzle/shower/animals lining up in pairs: NO PROBLEM.

Hey folks! Been researching facts about home brews. I think I am going to make my own as well, seems simple enough and I thought about creating a small ram air tube using pvc and the empty fog light openings. I am however, concearned with potential water with the open air system versus the stock air box. Any thoughts?
