Subject: 4x4 auto axle gear questions IP: Logged
Message: I have a 4x4 4.7 auto with the 3.55 gears. When getting on the gas my shifts from first to second is at 41mph while reving at 5400rpm. Going from second to third i hit 75mph. These speeds at these shift are much higher than what i'm used to. Is there an equations out there to see what speeds I would be doing with the 3.92 ratio. How much better will my acceleration be? i have the stock 31" tires. Would going to a 28" tire be a better choice. I'm really just looking for performance, and don't mind a little drop in gas mileage. I have already done the other basic mods including the HO treatment. Thanks for the help.

Message: Hey do you hang out on Dodge Talk also? I know a guy with the same name I think as yours over there and I was talking with him in a post about the H.O. parts my name over there is 2K2_AtlanticBlu. We have about the same trucks except mine is a 2002, is yours a cc or a qc? If you want to see pics of it check out my site at: http://www.sounddomain.com/id/alpine_56
P.S.,
I am going to put 4.10's in my truck as soon as I find a good shop around here.
Later,
Andrew

Message: I have found a site that has the caculator that you are looking for. It is "www.intercotire.com". After you enter the site, click on TECHNICAL INFO. Then click on CALCULATOR & TABLES. Next, pick the one that says GEAR RATIO because this one will tell you mph and rpm with your inputs. Your trans ratios are as follows:
1st 3.00
2nd 1.67 up-shift/1.50 kick-down
3rd 1.00
4th 0.75
5th 0.67
Your transfer case ratio is 1 in 2wd and 4wd high. I am not sure but I believe it is 2.76 in 4wd low. You do not have to put in the crawl ratio. Be sure to fill in either the mph (pick at random for the gear you're in) or rpm (also pick at random for the gear your in). This one has been very helpful to me.

Message: thankyou for the reply. Has anyone done the swap to 3.92 from 3.55? What did you guys think of it? Anyone just go to a smaller tire size?

Message: i just swapped from 3.55 to 3.92 in my quad 4.7 4x4 and let me tell you its expensive but worth it. Takes off much quicker. Havent noticed any gas difference. Just went 300 miles at 20 mpg going 65 which is what i got before. The only mod i have is a z-tube.
