Subject: I'm stumped completely IP: Logged
Message: My 94 dakota has a 5.2 in it. A couple of months ago it started running terrible. Because I was in the process of moving I just drove a secondary vehicle around. Now I have begun working on it and I am completely stumped by this thing. All my cylinders have high compression, I just replaced my entire electrical timing and firing system. When I checked the vacuum it was showing signs of late timing. According to my timing marks however it didn't jump time. And it runs fine at idle and when it is in Nuetral, but as soon as you put it in gear and give it gas it backfires (intake) and will quit unless you feather the accelerator very gently. If anyone has any clue or has similar problems ... help!

Message: Check your fuel pressure and for any pluged vaccume ports. both of thease could cause your problems. But then again firing orders do tend to get crossed up even in the best guarages. That might help.

Message: I had a 95 with a 5.2. I had similar problems twice. The first time was the inlet filter on the fuel pump unit inside the gas tank was plugged. This will only happen under 1/4 tank of gas becuase there is a bypass for the filter. Your proplems could also be caused by a plugged outlet filter on the pump unit. This would happen no matter how much gas was in the tank. I replaced the entire pump/sending unit at the time, it was a dealer only item for 500 Can. but I'm sure you can get the filters quite cheap. The second time this problem occured the catalytic converter was pluggled. Usually would only happen when engine was hot (going up long hills, or towing). Hope this helps

Message: I'm pertty sure its a fuel pressure problem.I have found that you can run with a bad TPS and it wont cause your problem. My TPS was bad for 6 months, maybe longer.
Run a bottle of injector cleaner through it and see if it changes.
Powerdyne 6#, MP Headers, Transgo shit kit, MSD/BTM ignition, MAP tweak, relocated IAT, MP PCM, "409" taylor plug wires, Keith Black Pistons, 5140 I-beam rods, polished head bowls. MONEY PIT!!
