I have never had a problem with my dakota ever before...and all of the sudden I was waiting to pick somone up in the parking lot and the rpm's dropped down to somewhere around 500-600 and it sounded as if it wanted to stall but it didn't...anyone have any ideas?

Yeah both my Daks with the 4.7 have done this also, I dont worry about it, because it seldom does it, so I figure Normal.

Wait what? My truck idles at about 700 but it's very smooth. '98 5.2L. This is the only Dodge I have ever owned and I just got it. Should I be worried?

I noticed my 2002 4.7 idles pretty rough, I dont see the tach changing at all but i can feel vibrations in my butt every 5 sec or so. I can also feel these same vibrations in my shifter.(you know what shifter i mean lol) This doesnt really bother me too much and i figured if it aint broke, dont fix it! Anybody else with these symptoms? I have tried different brands of gas(only use 87 tho) and Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

No mods besides 20oz coffee (for fragrance) and a dozen or so farts

thx for reading my 1st post!! AL:)

The 5.2 has a pretty good size cam, and you should feel the lump of it. On occasion it will drop the RPMS. This has happened to me on several occasions and more now since the new cam.

If you are running the 4.7ltr then don't worry, it normally idles around 500 rpm. It will however drop out to around 400rpm every now and then. You can tell because it feels like somone just ran into you. There is a flash out for this fix but you get robbed of power.

yes, when you said it feels like someone ran into you, damn this is true. I noticed it when I went to a larger TB. It reeally does feel like someone bumped you. I turned around and scream so fast and I then see no car behind me and I hear the idle go back up. Very strange, but not worth the flash to fix it.
