Subject: Transfer case fluid change? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '92 4wd and need to change the fluid in the transfer case. I have found the drain bolt but not the place to put the new fluid in. Can anyone help? Also, what type of fluid is required?

Message: Get some +3 or equivlent. If you look about 2-3 inches higher and to the right a little of the drain plug there is the fill plug. Yes it is pretty much in behind the cross member. If you have one of those little funnel things that you screw in clace of the cap then it makes the job much easier since you can just squeeze it into the hole. Or you can use a old dish wash liquid container to put the oil in.

Message: I changed the fluid in my T-case not too long ago (80k miles, thought it wouldn't hurt) and the owners manual says dextron III/Mercon or ATF +3. You can use either one. (all newer transfer cases use chains)
if you have a NP231HD like I do, the fill plug is above the drain plug (1" or 7/8" socket).
