Subject: Shifting problem w/93 v8 IP: Logged
Message: My daughter drives my old '93 Dakota. She started complaining that the transmission doesn't shift when it gets cold out. I checked the fluid when she was home for the holidays and it looks great. I had it flushed a few months back and it has always worked dependably.
Any suggestions, I assume the shift points are controlled by the computer, but what does it rely on for speed sensor, is it the same as the Speedometer? She didn't report any erratic speed indication?

Message: It is all done hydraulicly, internal to the transmission. Probably a leaky seal.

Message: I had the same problem with my 93 it wouldn't shift into third for about a half mile or into OD until it warmed up. I used some trans stop leak and conditioner I don't remember what brand but it wasn't the expensive stuff in about 20 miles the trans was shifting smother and the next morning it shifted into OD no problem it doe's still have to warm up befroe the direct drive lock in.
