Subject: Mobil 1 today IP: Logged
Message: Well i just did the 3rd oil change on my 2002 dak 4.7 and I went with mobil 1 and a mobil 1 filter. And I noticed something interesting.
My truck seems to have better smoother acceration. I was not expecting this after the oil change but believe me it was a pleasent surprise. This is my first experience with synthetic oil and I choose Mobil 1 over amsoil because I still want to do my oil changes every 3 to 4 thousand miles and the added expense of the amsoil was prohibited. Now I know that amsoil is a better oil in some folks opinion and it is recommended for extended change intervals but for my use changing the oil every 3000 miles I figured that mobil 1 would be just fine and it costs less. So has anybody else ever noticed a performance increase with synthetic oil , or is it just my imagination ?

Message: I have 36600 on my 00 Dak QC and made the switch to Mobile 1 Synthetic Blends not the total synthetic. Anyways it does run smoother than before. I got the same result from my 99 Sebring LXi. Since I perform oil changes every 3000 miles I felt the blended would be the best route for me.
Z-Tube, R/T Rims, SSB Rear Disc Conversion, Alpine Head-Unit, Infinity Kappa Speakers, SilverStar Headlights, HO Cams & Intake installed.
Got H.O. ?

Message: If you do vibration anyalsis(sp) you will also find that synthetics reduce total vibrations and most importantly they tend to reduce harmful harmonics. Primary and secondary harmonics can destroy a crank bearing realy quickly.

Message: Kota that may be because you didn't run the truck with conventional oil first. I will say it again my engine runs smoother with the mobil 1.
Also according to the mobil 1 web site mobil 1 is a full synthetic. Whatever I know I like the difference and I plan to continue to pay the extra for the improvment.

Message: Every one is talking how good Mobil1 is and I believe that it is but how about other synthetics such as Synpower by Vavoline, syntec or havoline synthetics.

Message: I'm not anything, but, I remember a thread saying that LEGALLY, any company can call their oil synthetic, even the dino oils, if it's had some 'treatment' of the oil.
J.Goff, again, I"m not anybody, but to my knowlege the only oils all truely synthetic are AMsoil and Mobil 1, someone surely knows different though.
Good luck, with relatively frequent changes, I don't know a difference would be seen. I use Mobil 1, and when ai switched at about 3K, it seems to be smoother as The Mig pilot has posted.

Message: I used Mobile 1 in my last truck and it's in my 2001 4.7 Dakota CC. Don't know about performance increases, all I know is that I drove my 1989 (built in 1988) truck in Florida heat towing a boat for 140k miles and never had a problem with the drive train. Did have to change a water pump at 110k but that's unrelated. It still ran great when I sold it. Naturally, when I bought my Dak, Mobile 1 when into the engine and differential. Mobile one doesn't make a synthetic approved for my 45RFE 5-speed tranny so I flushed out the Mopar and put Amsoil ATF in it which I can buy locally. I've only got about 34k on my Dak at this point but it still runs and shifts as smooth as silk.
Sheesh guys, I hear a lot of problems discussed with Daks on the board but I still think my 2001 Flame Red Dak is the best looking "and" best running truck I ever owned. I haven't had problem one and I'm just thrilled with the performance of the 4.7 V8 engine. Did I mention I love my Dak *smile*.
Cheers

Message: I have used Mobile 1 for about 12 - 15 years know. What I do remeber is that when Mobile 1 first came out On the can they had printed that you didn't need to change the oil every 25k, but you needed to change your filter every 5k. I don't think they have changed there formula on the oil but people didn't change there filters and this brought on troubles, so they (mobile oil) started to recommend 3k to 5k oil changes not because of the oil but because of the filter life.

Message: Bill, you are partially right. First: the formulation has changed but for the better. Second: In independant test has shown that the additive package in Mobil 1 is depleted at about 10,000 to maybe 15,000 miles. Third: if you go an miles over the factory suggested then the factory warranty is void. Then people expect the Oil supplier to warranty their work. Mobil 1 and several others have put that wording on their bottles to stop lawsuits. My advice: if you go beyond manufacturers suggested and you have engine problems, be prepared with papers showing that you have changed the oil as suggested.
