Message: These are probably stupid questions: What is the junction of a throttle body? What exactly causes it to get dirty? And what are the benefits of cleaning it? Thanks.

Message: The throttle body is like the air inlet valve for your engine. That's where the throttle butterfly is located. The further you depress the gas pedal the more the blade opens and lets in more air. It's kinda like a carb except the fuel is mixed in later by the injectors. If it gets dirty, the blade can stick and hinder performance.
Hmmmm.. i think I'll clean mine this weekend, along with the IAC solenoid. It's been idling kind of funny lately.

Message: One more question. I was looking at the throttle body today and above the IAC and TPS sensors,(which one is the IAC?) there is a 1/8 inch black tube that goes into the throttle body. What is this tube and it seems pretty tough to get off. Also, there are two throttle cable on the right side of the throttle body, are they easy to get off. Thanks.

Message: The IAC sensor is under the TPS. The line into the throttle body is probably the EVAP line (carries gasoline vapors from a canister somewhere on the vehicle into the tb).

Message: Actually I think the black line is technically part of the vacume system - which would make you correct as well J because the evap is handled by the vacume system I believe.

Message: The iac is at the back of the throttle body, the tps at the driver's side of the throttle body, and the map sensor at the front. The hose coming off of the front goes towards the EVAP system located on the firewall above the distributer on pre 2001 models (maybe pre 2000) and located by the battery on newer models.
carbon is built up on the throttle body from pcv valve, leaky plenum plates (not all cases though) and blow back from the engine.

Message: I'm sorry, I'm assuming you have a 4.7. I'm giving locations for my engine. What engine do you have?
