I orderd my 4.7L with 4 speed manual tranny from the factory. The NV3500 tranny is available on the Dakota even today. (Same tranny as used on many RAMS and much of the GMC/Chevy truck line)
Who the heck wants an AUTOMATIC tranny on a TRUCK anyway? (Especially if it costs nearly $1000 more and has some 'issues') I used the xtra $1000 to add better shocks, brakes and a BORLA exhaust. (and still have some $$ to spare)

Message: The nv 35000 is a 5 speed manual. The 4 speed Jay is talking about is the A-833 overdrive unit. No offense, but that tranny was a piece of junk. Huge range between ratios. They put an overdrive gear in place of 3rd and left 4th as 1:1 and flipped the shift lever.
The gear ratios are
1st- 3.06
2nd- 1.67
3rd- 1.00
4th- 0.73
I don't think your 4.7 would like this tranny at all.

Message: I stand corrected... i guess I just use my NV3500 as a 4-speed.... second gear takoffs are a breeze with a torquey engine at just above idle.
