Subject: Fuel FIlter/Pump IP: Logged
Message: My 2000 4.7 just started making a high pitched noise. I'm guessing it may be the fuel pump or filter.
Has anyone had this problem? If so.... is it an easy fix? What parts seem to work best.
IF it is the fuel pump, how hard would it be to change. I'm hoping its just the filter.

Message: Well the main way you can tell if it's your fuel pump or not just leave the door open and turn the key to the run position BUT DON'T START IT and lesson for the fuel pump to run 1 or 2 sec.
If it doesn't make the noise that you have been hearing then it's not it.
If it does then it's your fuel pump making the noise DOESN'T MEAN IT'S BAD! Some make louder noises than others. The filter is just a sock on the inlet side of the fuel pump and wouldn't be making that noise. The only thing a cloged sock would do is give you poor fuel pressure, and lead to stalling and hesatation. Both ways you will have to drop the tank to change it out anyway.
Hope I helped.

Yes, I tried that last night and confirmed that it is deffinetely the fuel pump. The truck is only 2.5 years old damn!!!
It looks like I'll be doing the repair this weekend, or whenever I burn off the gas in the tank.

Message: Well, it died on the way to work... I had no alternative then to drive it the nearest service station at 15mph.
The pump from the factory cost $450.00
THANKS DaimlerChrysler!!!!! The vehicle is only 2.5 yrs. old!!!!!
My warranty is over but I still feel they should cover this. Anyone know who I could possibly contact? At least to bitch and feel a little better?

Message: Sorry to hear that......
I would try every Auto Parts Store in your area before I would go to the Dealer being $450.00
There has got to be some place a little cheaper!
Other than that sorry I couldn't help more. I have only been on here a cople of months and I'm in Korea at least another couple of months.

Message: If you must change the fuel pump or filter I was told it is much simpler to take out the bolts that hold the bed in place and remove it. This allows access to the top of the tank and less mess and risk.
