Subject: 1/4 mile time on my R/T IP: Logged
Message: I have a 00 R/T CC and I have ran it three times and every time I ran it I ran 15.8, now I think that is a little slow for my truck. I haven't done much yet just a gibson catback and K&N intake. I was told that if you shift the truck even if you have a auto tranny that this can improve your times is this true??

Message: Yes if you shift it yourself at a higher rpm you may notice a 1-2 tenth gain. But your times are right in line with most stock CCs. All you really need is a throttle body, M1 2bbl intake, mopar pcm, and maybe headers to see some 14s at the track. So your just under $1500 away from a truck that is probably 1 second faster. Also get a $30 cutout from summit, it's good for 2 tenths easy.

Message: High Performance Mopar got a 15.1 with their stock CC. That was an uncorredcted time from a real dragstrip. Lots of folks get low 15's even high 14's on a stock CC R/T but it really depends on track conditions.

Yes Tires are very important, the right size slicks will give you not only improved traction but also an advantage in gearing. My times dropped by 3/10 one day just by borrowing some slicks.
A cutout is a way to un-cap your exhuast right before the cat. This way your engine exhuast runs straight out with out going thru a cat or muffler. I did a dyno and it showed a 9hp gain with the cap open and at the track it's good for at least 1-3/10.

Message: Like iv said on other posts... If you can get mid to high 14's out of a stock R/T with a nice set of nittos, M/T's, or whatever brand suits your fancy, which supposidly dyno's around 190hp at the rear wheels that isnt too shabby at all my friends.

Message: I have seen many stock 4.7s dyno at 208 RWHP that 18 more than the R/T. The 4.7 might be less HP at the crank but when it comes to RWHP the 4.7 has less drivtrain loss. the Percentage is in the teens compared to the 20 for the 5.9. And I too have seen 4.7s running mid to high 14s stock

Message: The good old 5.9 vs. 4.7 war again??
Let me add my piece. My buddy bought a 02 regular cab R/T. I have a '00 SLT regular cab 4.7 5-spd 3:92.
Me... Flowmaster, Firestone 275-60-15 SS20's, tonneau, Lakewood bars
TIME...........14.86@91mph 2.0 60ft
Him...Flowmaster, Stock rubber, K&N filtercharger intake, and Lakewood Bars
TIME...........15.2?@89mph 2.2 60ft
We raced 4 times that night. I got him every time. I know he knows how to run...
15.2 is a very respectable time in an automatic truck. He has since wittled the time down to a 14.99@91mph by removing the clutch fan, and putting different tires on it. He's also removed the cat...WHAT A SWEET SOUND!! Don't know if it helped him on the track? Our trucks run very similar now.
Whether you have the 5.9 or 4.7 you've got a little truck that hauls ass...period....
Now quit arguing and pass the peace pipe.

Message: The 5.9 RT and the 4.7 do not run the same trans. The 5.9 trans. model # is 47-RE, but the 4.7 is 45-5RFE. In terms of rearwheel HP. the trans. isn't the only reason for the difference. The waterpump on the 4.7 only pulls 6 hp. That seems like a lot, but it is said to be considerably less than the old pump on the 5.9. Almost every accesory is new on the 4.7, so you would guess that they are all more efficent. About the 4.7/5.9 arguement, it's not what it runs from the factory, it's what you do with with it after you get it from the factory. Equivalent upgrades on each engine will most likely produce greater gains on the 5.9
Drive safe, smart, and haul ass.
