Subject: 4.7 to the Hemi IP: Logged
Message: As I daydream about the Hemi and the flood of them coming on the the market (440,000 per year) I wonder how complicated a conversion might be. Weight should not be much different. Would DC make it so it would be a simple bolt up? Sounds like the same fly by wire system. I guess I will need to wait a while for those kinds of details.

Message: I have put American V8's into rice burners so anything is posable. I doubt that it would be easy though. Have you looked under the hood of the 4.7 Dak? THeir is not enough space for a remote oil filter under their! I have never seen an American engine bay that crowded on a truck.

Message: I've heard that the 4.7 was a hemi, how is it different than the 5.7 in the comb. chamber config?

Message: I thought you could always recognize a hemi by the spark plugs going straight thru the valve covers? The 4.7 doesn't look like that.

Message: Lots of space in the 4.7 engine bay, sandman remove the front shroud and look up,you can fit a dual oil filter with no prob at all

Message: I am fairly sure the Hemi will physically fit. The only real question will be how much of a job it would be. On the older Gen II's wasn't it just a unbolt the 5.2 and bolt in a 5.9 for conversion? Something similar would be very nice.

Message: I've heard that too, the only difference between the 4.7 and a real Hemi is the shape of the combustion chambers, aside from that...same engine

Message: Nope... 4.7 is a overhead cam design, the new hemi is a pushrod engine.... single cam in block like the old 5.2/5.9. It has practically nothing in common with any previous Mopar design.

Message: R.L.Sutart,
So DC has not changed the bolt pattern for the 545 vs the 45 tranny for use with the new 5.7L? I thought that I read something on the basis that the 545RFE (although just a reprogrammed 45RFE) had a different pattern. Maybe that was just some pre-production stuff I was reading. Let me know!

Message: I personally hope that it is hard as hell to put into a dakota, just so my 4.7 that I just bought can still hang :D At least hard enough so that it's about as rare as seeing a viper or Z06 vette..
But then that's just me. I also love star wars but dread the day that episode III is released cuz I know that's the last new star wars I'll ever see..
I fear change :(

Message: I suspect the only way an AWD Dak will see a Hemi is to install it. I am heartened by some of the things Stuart has to say. $7K + installation. I think I will signup and hold on.
