Subject: Shifting noise IP: Logged
Message: Hi,
I just got my new Dakota with the 4.7L V8, and auto trans. When I shift into reverse or drive there is a rapid clicking noise almost like a buzz. What is this?
Also, why do I have so much water dripping from my tail pipe, its not because I drove through some water.
Thanks fo the help.

Message: That buzz is the transmission fluid pump. All chrysler automatic transmissions do it. It actually makes the noise during every shift, but the noise is most noticeable when at a dead stop or moving slowly.
Water out the tailpipe is usually just condensation and should clear up by the time the truck is fully warmed up. Lots of short trips in which the exhaust system never fully warms up make this worse. If it is continually dumping water, your coolant level drops, and you are smelling burning antifreeze, then you would have a problem.

Message: Being well accustomed to the ol' 747 Torqueflites, my newly acquired 92 Dakota (4x4 Magnum V8) seems like it is descended from a GM(ugh!) Powerslide- it also really seems to hunt between OD and high gear. Is there a reprogram chip that will eliminate this? I had the trans serviced by a supposedly reputable shop, and was told that this was normal. Sure seems strange to me, especially as my wife's 97 Dakota doesn't act this way...

Message: that noise when u put ur trans into gear is the solenoid pack in the pan. its an electric solenoid mounted on the side of the valve body. it controls the tcc,and the o/d. the ticking is normal and there aint a damn thing u can do about it.
