Subject: 4.7 liter spark plug question
IP: Logged

Message:
Hello,

Getting ready to change the spark plugs in my 2000 4.7 liter Dakota.

When pulling the spark plug coil/tube assembly from the plugs, I notice the rubber o rings at the bottom are really dry rotted and falling apart on some plug tubes. So before removing the plugs, I am going to blow air into the head before removing the plug to prevent debris from getting in the cylinder.

My question is, what exactly do these o rings do and are they needed. If they only keep dust out of the plug hole I might not replace them.

Went to the dealership to see if you can buy the o rings, but they only sell the whole coil/plug by itself.

Has anyone experienced this, or have any ideas?

Thanks!

I have the same thing happening on my '00 Dakota.

I found some replacement O rings at my local
hardware store.
