Subject: 2005 190k miles overheating IP: Logged
Message: My 2005 Dodge Dakota began to overheat a couple of months ago. Replaced the thermostat
(twice), put on a brand new water pump, put on a brand new radiator and it ran at the
normal temperature for about two-three weeks. It began to run hot again, so we had that
radiator flushed, flushed heater core with water hose and put on a new fan clutch. Still
runs hot and highway speeds will not cool it down at all.
Head gasket check came out good, there is no oil/water/coolant mix, and I only lose
water/coolant when it boils over into the resevoir and out of the overflow tube. The top
hose on the radiator is very hot to the touch (sometimes very hard to squeeze when
pressurized) and the bottom hose gets very warm but you can grip it almost as long as you
like. All fluids (transmission, engine oil) are at proper levels.
The specs are 2005 4.7L V8 automatic two wheel drive with 190k miles. All original
equipment until parts named above replaced.
Any ideas?

Message: After a couple hours of cooling the coolant does not
go back into the radiator, it sits in the overflow
resevoir.
