Subject: noise when idling in drive IP: Logged
Message: i have a 2000 4-door 4x4 4.7 with 203,000 miles and lately it has been making a noise that only occurs when the truck is in drive and idling with my foot on the brake and the ac on.. i recently had some engine work done, and i'm thinking they didn't put enough freon back in. do you think this could somehow come from being low on freon?
thanks

Message: If it only makes this noise when the a/c compressor is engaged, then Yes. If you had someone service it recently, bring it back to them immediately. The system is probably low on oil. Your compressor won't stand that for very long.

Message: Are you considering the freon the oil or is there like some
type of gear oil that goes in it too?

Message: If all that needs to be done is add freon I can do that without
bringing it 60 miles back to his shop..

Message: I'm not talking about freon. Oil, a PAG oil. Not sure which one is needed but yest it can be added separately. Each system should ahve a certain amount, Just a couple/few ounces.
