Subject: 98 Dakota several issues IP: Logged
Message: I have a '94 dakota 5.2ltr v8, auto tranny, 4x4, i believe its a quad cab (no rear door, but half a$$ back seats if you know what i mean)
Here are my issues:
The main problem i have is i have what it feels like no low end power....whenever i punch the gas down, it feels and sounds like the engine noise gets lower, and i get little power....but if i ease off the gas, i can get going..... And on the same issue, whenever im on the highway and im going up a hill, there is like no get-up-and-go! The truck always downshifts and i never once have gained speed going up a hill. i either loose a ton of speed and piss off the people behind me, or i very slowly loose speed until i get to the top of the hill......really pissing me off....
Also, i have no heat. The fan and everything works, but i have no heat....sometimes after a 30 minute drive, i start to feel heat, but thats a rarity. In an attempt to quick fix the heat issue, i flushed the coolant system, which almost seemed to slighty fix the issue for a day or so...i wasnt getting a lot of heat, but was just warmer cold air lol....
Also, when in 4x4 mode, whenver i stake a turn, not a sharp sharp turn, but a sharper turn like turning into my driveway, i hear like a bumping type noise, like there is some rough $ex going on under the left side of the truck somewhere....
any help will be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

Message: You have a club cab, not a quad cab.
For the heat, try backflushing the heater core.
It is a common problem.
The turning noise when in 4x4 mode is also common.
When in 4x4 the front/rear axles are locked. The
front wheels turn a different diameter circle than
the rear of the truck and the tires skid. It's
rough on the drivetrain. I'm not sure if all
wheel drive was available in 94.
For the lack of power, when was your last tuneup?
I'm thinking that the cats might be getting a bit
plugged. How many miles on it?

Message: A pretty Essie test with the cat would be just to undo the cat and shift it to the side and take some ecosse strapping and tie it up away ove the direction of flow. it will be very loud and drive it up a hill and see if that changes it if it does well you may have found the problem.
Ps. please recycle it it contains precious metals.

Message: robert , do a full service on the trans , if you have a place they can hook the machine up to do it your better off, if you do it your self , look in the book you will find that your suppose to adjust the bands every 37,500 miles you have the front kick down band which is on the out side of trans , and the rear (low-reverse) band and this is only done with the trany pan down , i also disconnected the cooler lines to the trans cooler on the radiator and installed an aftermarket trans cooler , as every one knows the dodge trannies have issues so by eliminating xtra heat gives the trans abit more life i have 215,000 on my trans and i did a 318-360 conversion, and i also added the lucas trans additive, as far as the code try changeing the fluid . good luck to ya
